I just put together my first 7mm-08. Rem 7 w/ 24 inch SS sporter barrel.

I have Sierra gameking 140s, Hornady 139 cl, and Nosler BT 140s. I was hoping to burn up some excess H100 V with this project, but it looks like it is a bit slow for the job, and data does not exist. At least that I have found.

I also have a couple pounds of H4895, and of RL17.

Alliant shows 2819 fps with 46 gr Rl 17 and a 145.

Hodgdon shows 2769 fps with 40.5 gr H4895 and a 140.

Anyone have any experience with these powders in the 7-08?

I get 2875fps with a 140g TTSX and 46.5g of RL17. 45.0g of 2000MR is good for 2930fps and just as accurate. Never got around to testing them in cold weather tho as loads were developed in the summer. Barrel is 21".
Wow, that is impressive velocity, especially with your shorter barrel.

Thanks

I have good experience with RL17 and 140 sierra pro-hunters.

46 grains and a 140 is conservative.

Hornady list 46 as max with a 162 ELDX.

The accuracy node in my 22” kimber is just over 2900fps, burning roughly 48 grains.

Pressures can get out of hand quickly with RL17; id suggest you measure case head expansion as a sanity check.
Thanks, going with 47 gr RL 17 and a Hornady 139 moly for now. We'll see how she likes that this week.

My 7-08 really likes RL17 and 140 BT.

47gns of RL17 and a 140gn Nosler Accubond works well in my Rem 700 7mm/08 with 23"bbl

Velocity averages around 2865fps.

I just ordered a couple pounds of the new Winchester StaBall powder from Powder Valley.

Hodgdon data shows the following for the 7-08:

120 gr. @ 3,201 fps
130 gr. @ 3,125 fps
139gr. @ 3,054 fps
140 gr. @ 2,976 fps

This, reportedly, is a temp stable ball powder with copper fouling remover technology.

These data push the 7-08 closer to 7RM performance. Of course, a handloader can always out run the small block 7-08 with the big block 7RM. Displacement does matter. Interesting, nonetheless.

I will be tickled with 2850 fps or so with this combination of rifle and bullet. If I need more speed, I can grab the 264 with the 130 AB at 3300, or the 7 STW with 160 AB at 3200.

This one is meant primarily as a deer rifle for the G kids.

Note that uses a Swift bullet which may be "grabby" in the bore, they often show pressure at lower charge weights than others. The 139 Hornady shows a 42.5 grain max at 2857 fps.

Given this I'd look into an H4895 load a bit below max.
I stuffed the first 100 with Rl 17 last night. We'll see how they work. Who knows, I might be pulling 95 bullets, once I get out where I can shoot them.

I think I have found a place for the H100V in a 260 with Lapua brass and 123 Scenars.

It might not be the first choice for the 260, but I am trying to use up about thirty pounds of old stock in twenty different varieties.

100 for a first trial? Go big or go home I guess! grin
Yes, I sincerely miss the bench rest which was 50 feet from the reloading room.

The bench is still in the same place, but the reloading room has moved.
I did the math comparing StaBall with my 150 eldx load using Big Game. The new powder suggests an additional 70 FPS, which isn’t enough to make a change.

I use 140 Ballistic tips and IMR 4350. I get great groups with that combination
