I just bought dies for my .243 win. Its about 3 years old and its a ADL. Ive tried to look up its twist rate but cant find a definitive answer. Anybody know what the twist is or have load recommendations for it? It's mostly going to be used for coyotes and wolves unless my wife can be talked into letting my 11yo hunt deer this year in Kodiak with me.

It's got a 1:9.125" twist. I'd be looking at 41-41.5 gr of H4350 or IMR 4350 and a 105 Horn HPBT.

I don't know the load data he uses but I have a friend who loads a .243 and uses the Nosler 95gr BT with RL19. I know he uses RL19 because I just picked up an 8lb can for him and the only rifle he owns is a .243. Whatever the load is it's very accurate and he takes deer on a regular basis with it. He's an older guy and to my knowledge the .243 is all he's ever used.

This. Also RL17 is another option that may yield slightly higher velocity.

Put IMR 4451 in the mix as well.

The 95 grain Ballistic Tip has been great for me.

My 21.5" factory 700 likes that bullet with RL26 at 3,000fps.

I would concentrate on the 100-grain bullets, with that standard twist. Go to any of the powder companies' sites to get ideas on where to start with your loads. The 4350 class of powders have always worked well, but now, Re 26 is really showing some velocity/accuracy promise (if you can find it).

My daughter shoots Barnes 85 grain TSX with a max load of IMR4831 in her Remington 243 and has killed a ton of game with it. Does a consistent inch on the range. Great combo for the 243 and youngsters.

I am using R22 & R26 but if I started over I would try R16 and R23 due to stability and de-coppering as well as good velocities. I used to load 4350 but availability has been erratic lately 4451 is a good alternative. I am mostly using Nosler 95 gr BT and sometimes the Partitions. In my 1-8 6mm I use 103-105s mostly. The Ballistic tip would work well for wolf and deer.

When you are deciding on which powders to try check on availability get 1lb to test and if it works well see if you can get more of the same lot # or go to an 8lb. jug. This will help keep you from working up loads with each new lot of powder.

The 80gr. TTSX would be another good youth load and it would work better on a bear than a softer bullet if needed.

I load the 80 TTSX for Grandkids and me now that I have a Savage 99 in 243. Grandkids hammer deer, pigs and Aoudads with theirs.

I use H4350 80 grain and above. H414 below 80 grain.

Another vote for the 105 hornady bthp.

100 grain Hornady with 42 grains IMR 4350 or 43 grains IMR 4350 and the Speer 90. Both are great killers tight behind the shoulder for us.

95 GRAIN partition, and re-26. lapua brass and a 210m

95NBT’s are tough pills, they’ve accounted for lots of meat in our freezer

R26 and 108 eld’s in mine

39 grains of 4064 with 100 grain Speer, Remington, Sierra, Hornady SPs.....

That is if I can't find any 95 grain Ballistic Tips at the reload store... or 90 grain Ballistic tips.

If I was going to go through the trouble and expense to reload for my .243, I'd pick two bullets. The 105 BTHP and 85 TSX.
Although the 95 BT and CT are surely good ones. And there's many who swear by the 85 and 87 HPBT' for dual purpose bullets.
I'm not sure that standard 100 grain PSP's would be worth my while. But 95 and 100 partitions maybe. And I wouldn't mind finding some 115 RN's just out of curiosity.

My favorite load for the .243 Winchester is 42.5 grains of 4350 with an 85 gr. Sierra BTHP. I shot hundreds of fox and coyotes with this load in a Post 64 Winchester Model 70.

I wonder if that load would work in my 700 ADL or maybe my Mossberg Patriot?

This exact load works in my 6mm Rem.

No input on how to kill a wolf but I bet an 85 or 95 grain Partiton would be tough to beat along with about any 85-100 grain soft point.

Have seen the 100 grain Sierra Gameking used on a bunch of coyotes and it was a very good bullet. We try to use a more fragile bullet now due to more population in the areas we used to hunt.

I am a fan of IMR-4350 for bullet weights of 85 grains and heavier. Probably other good powders out there but I have no experience with em.
