Bought a bunch of reloading stuff today from a widow, red cans of 3031 and a bunch of IMR-4451 any one using 4451? if so what for? Rio7
Just bought some myself to try in 6.5x55 first and see how it does in this heat down here!
Great with 140s in 6.5x47. Trying it in 6.5-284 with 130s just for grins. Need to load some more up.
From what I understand is that if you use H-4350,IMR-4451 is a close clone and the data is pretty darn close.

Yep, charges won't be quite the same but close.
I have used 4451 in a 243 pushing 85 grain TSXs. Gives me a couple hundred FPS more than 4350 and nice accuracy.
Remington 40-XB in 30/06, 168 Berger VLD Hunting and IMR 4451...5 shots in 0.5” - 0.6”
6.5 x 55 120 and 140 gr, 30-06 150 and 165, 168 gr, and 7 x 57 120 and 140 gr. Cannot find published data for all bullets, especially Barnes monoliths.
4451 gave less speed and accuracy than H4350 using 130/140’s in two of my 260’s.
I'm using 4451 in .270 Win with 130 gr bullets. Good accuracy and velocity.
243 win 7 twist. 105 Berger 3065 FPS. Outshoots H4350 by a lot.
I use it in 6.5 creed. Shoots better than 4350 but not as good in 6x47l
Thanks for the reply's, loaded up 20 test rnds, with imr 4451 Hornady 135 gr. a-tip cci 200
started with 41.0 gr. then 41.5 gr. 42.0 gr..42.2 gr.
41.0 and 42.2 both shot 1/2 " at 100 yrds 41.5 and 42.0 about 1" not bad for a first try. never have used the 135 a-tip their kinda neat, shot my 2 extra rnds of 42.2 at 500yrd plate right on the money,
put my chrno right by the door then walked off and forgot it, oh well next time, oh no pressure signs with these loads, not sure were I will go from here, till chrno them next time out. almost forgot Tikka 6.5 Creed Rio7
I use 4451 in my 8mm06 ai.. It does well i am not pushing the ai. but getting 2850 with the 180 grain ballistic tip. and 2700 with the 200 grain bullets. That is plenty of power for anything I am going to point at with it. Groups have been in the 1 -1.25 inch range. For the good loads. M8x57
Is it produced by Hodgdon? (I know it is a legacy DuPont label)
They might explain the low 4350 output this year as I just found a full shelf of it.
After digging through a few guides it's burn rate seems to fall right between IMR 4350 and H4350 but it is temperature stabilized...(so the can says)...
My gut feeling from my fist scan of the data is that it gives a closer match to target velocities with lighter projectiles....

Let us know how they compare to the H4350 velocities. I can still find H4350 occasionally here, but it's sparse. When I see it on the shelves, I always buy a couple pounds at a time.. I hear IMR4451 is great powder that compares quite nicely to H4350.. I've noticed its a little more expensive though, which is a drawback for me..
Lawrence,
our local Bi Mart down here got in about 20 one pound containers of H 4350 recently...
I was not in there for the week after that.. when I was there the following week, of course it was all gone..
they have a one pound limit per powder type...
if its floating around in the BiMart system, maybe it will show up at your local store...
of course you know BiMart... "when will you have it back in stock?".. when it shows up on the truck again....
They also had some RL 26 about a month ago.. saw some Hunter and a couple other of the Western Powders earlier this week..

Thanks buddy. Yeah, I bought some last week. They let me buy 2 pounds of it though. I'm glad we don't have a purchase limit on powder yet. Or maybe they do? Generally I just buy a couple pounds at a time. They do have a limit on ammo purchases though. I don't buy a lot of factory ammo though..
I use a near-max load in my -06, under 150 Interlocks, for 3000 fps and outstanding accuracy. I have also shot it in my Creeds with great results. As was said, it is really near the H4350.

Came across a place last week that had no shortage of anything(except I didn't see any Tac) they had 5&8#cans of 4350(both denominations). The guy at the counter said they had vaults downstairs with powder pallets...
It was a literal cornucopia compared with what I have seen elsewhere...
I’ve never seen it in my store.
I just loaded 2 ladders to test with 4451 and 200gr Hornady FPs and 250gr Barnes Orginals in my 348 Win after watching one of North 61's videos.
Thanks, Dinny
I'm loading it in my 280 and my .270. Meters easier than H4350, far easier than 4350, and has an anti fouling agent which cuts down on copper fouling. The only powder I found which will shoot well with the Barnes 145 gr. LRX in my .280. Like it so much I bought an 8 lb. keg. Going to use it in my '06' as well. E
