I know what a 7mm-08 case looks like after it gets fired in a .30-06.

Me, I have both calibers. Keep it simple/stupid. I try to keep it simple every chance I can because I can be stupid. Why give myself one more possible "stupid" event? Besides, brass is relatively cheap, especially if you buy once fired brass.
I have always kept them in well labeled boxes and also the the bullets are different so I can spot the difference quick. Soft point in 308 and ballistic tip in 7mm 08
7-08 ammo is cheap, you can often find loaded ammo on sale for the same price as brass. Shoot 100 rounds or pull the bullets and go from there. Or find once-fired on the interwebs.

Don't be cheap. Listen to that "little voice" and buy the brass you actually need!
Some brands of 308 brass will leave you with thick neck walls, some rifles will require you to ream or turn case necks. That said I have a couple boxes of cases made from Federal 308 Match brass that work just fine.
I like using the proper head stamp when possible. Just me.
I got a great deal on Nosler 308 wiin brass back when it was scarce and 7-08 brass was not available. I ran the brass thru a 7-08 Lee Collet Neck Sizer and let 'er eat in the wife's 7-08. Most of the cases have been shot several times. It shoots great in her Tikka T-3X, and I still haven't needed to trim the brass. Since I shoot 7-08, 7-08AI, and 243, i check headstamps and sort accordingly.
Personally, I'd pony up for properly head stamped brass.
You may not be the only one handling the rig on the range....
I load for .243, 260, 6.5 CM, 7-08 and ,358.
The only case I use reformed .308 for is the .358. Your not going to chamber that in anything else.
All my reloads are housed in different colored ammo cases, per caliber.
Green for .243, blue for .260 and so on - all clearly written on the box.
Keep it simple....
My pal and I were shooting at the local range one day.
He had his 22-250 and I a .243..... both of our ammo was contained in green, ammo boxes.
He inadvertently tried to chamber a .243 in his 22-250 and we learned a quick lesson.
It could have been worse if I'd plucked a 22-250 round for my .243.
I hear some people confuse the 22-250 with the 7mm-08.
