OK heres one for the gallery, I ran into an old box of these the other day and bought them. Any Nosler Solid base I ever used back in the day was a good bullet, but never tried these. Any experience of there? Would it be fur friendly in a .223? Would it hold up for head shooting pigs in the .222 or .223?
I don’t have any first hand experience even though I do have an old yellow box of groove shanked Solid Base Zipedo SPs I’m going to load up someday. But I can say that I’ve never had trouble with headshots on pigs with even to old Christmas box Ballistic Tips in full house 223 and 22-250 loads. I’m betting the SBs will perform great.

Thats my guess as well. Prior to the advent of 'premium ' bullets I used 60 gr. Solid base on deer and antelope-body shots- with nary an issue.
There were 4 different 50gr. Solid Bases. Expander, Spitzer, HP, & HP Match. I used some of the expanders on groundhogs. They were comparable to Sierra Blitz or Hornady SX... 'splodey parts. Going back to early 80s bullet technology, 50s were generally thought of as varmint bullets. I'm unsure if any of them have thick enough jackets for a pig's skull, but then I've never shot a pig's skull either so...

Well a basic 50 gr Hornady SP kills pigs so Im guessing this one will too, it the Spitzer version. Gonna find out!

I had some of the Hornet 46's and 50 gr. Solid Bases. My understanding is that they were the basis for the Ballistic Tip and I would surmise they aren't as fragile on the front end and the same at the ass end.

A long way to say they should work fine.
They blew prairie dogs up good at 3900 fps in my m77v 220 Swift damn good.. bobw
Poobs, I bet you have a guy on speed dial who knows all about them. whistle
Send em this way. I bet I can kill deer and coyotes rather handily with em.

I'm pretty sure I'll keep them here, load them down for fur, and load them up for pigs.

last rumor heard over this way from out of Montana, is the factory ammo companies have Ingwe on speed dial
and frequently call him up for HIS advice...

assumed J.B was tired of handling it all, and pawned some of it off on Ingwe...

could just be a rumor tho.....
The nosler solid base was always my favorite conventional bullet. Pissed me off when they quit making them.
I never analyzed the 22s but did some study on why the 6mms performed so well. They had a huge jacket to bullet weight ratio, with a very thick tapered jacket. I dissolved the jacket in nitric acid and measured the lead core and weighed it. IIRC the jacket on the 70 gr 6mm was 45% of the billet weight. Shot a bunch of hogs & a couple antelope with it in my sako 6x47.
Wish I could find some of those 22 cal 50 grains.
