School me on the 20-222.

Wanting to build a 222 but the 20-222 intrigues me.

Anybody built or using one?

To me I guess the triple deuce is so awesome that I would never mess with it, perfect the way it is. why not a 20 fireball or 20-223 ??????????
Posted By: Seafire Re: 20-222 - 04/04/21
I think the 222 case is more user friendly over the Fireball case...

I have built a 20 Practical, which is essentially a 20/223. Its a good cartridge, not much difference between it and the 223... and also not much difference in it and the 204 Ruger.

with the long neck, that is why I think the 223 case is the most user friendly....

currently working with a 17 Fireball.. if I was going strictly wildcat, I'd have used a 222 case instead.

.

I would be inclined to agree with John. I love the deuce and am building another one...Ive never messed with the .20-222 wildcat mainly because there isn't much bullet selection in the .20 cal..it is strictly a varmint proposition.

With the .222 and a variety of bullets I can ( and have...) gone from ground squirrels up to deer and hogs comfortably.

Thats my dilemma. Wanting a fun varmint gun but then it is just that.

Staying 222 is by far the easiest.

Been using mine for many years......

Original chamber was 20 BR...thus the 9 twist/3 groove barrel (55 Bergers)

Sent barrel back to Pac Nor to rechamber to 20-222...good choice

As shown in pic...dedicated portable table p/dog gun....18# as shown

Prob my favorite of the 20 cal's...wore out a 20 Practical (20-223)

Currently waiting for new P-N 20 Practical tube..10 twist/3 groove

I use Savage Target actions....easy to swap & set up your self...

Yes.....my other 20 is a 20 Vartarg (20 Fireball) I set up in 2007

32 Noslers & V Max in the 20 Vartarg...H4198 & H322-----Ocasional 40 V max's

I have lefty mini Mausers in 6mmx222 and 25x222(being finished at PacNor right now) and another mini Mauser yet to barreled to 222. If I can find another lefty mini Mauser it will become a 20-222.

Still have the itch. Jusy a pain in the ass having to get another skinny rod and cleaning supplies.

Probably should anyway for the 17 Hummer.

In my 20 Practical, I run two Hornady Bullets...

The 32 V Max and the more fun 24 gr NTX Lead free bullet.

I think its kind of a 222 AI necked to 20 caliber. Not really but sort of.

That’s interesting. I wonder how it compares to the 204 Ruger, velocity-wise.
Posted By: 10gaugemag Re: 20-222 - 07/11/21
Probably be whatever the difference is between the 222 and 222 Mag.

Even though the 204 Ruger is based off of a modified 222 Mag case so it will gain a dab more velocity I suspect the difference between the 204 and 20 Bob kitty to be close to the same difference.

That Bobcat on the model 70 is a fine looking rifle.

Should not really offer anything over a 20/223 or 20 Practical that I can see...

but thanks for bringing it to the table....I think guys like to have something different over just something that is the same thing in a different box...

I'm boring, dull and practical.... not Trendy and Cool....so it just may be me...

Correct. Seems like the long way around the schitthouse.
Posted By: OSU_Sig Re: 20-222 - 07/12/21
Everything seems to be compared to the 204 Ruger, which I already have, so I'm going to need a more compelling reason before taking one on.

20-222 or 20 tnt is in my mind the sweet heart go to ultimate reach for cart.
I take a bunch of guns including 204 20 tac my 222 salon
461 still is the reach for favorite
My partner has many of the same for him his reach for rifle is a 20 vartarg.
Just build one you will love it no doubt

have been noticing this locally lately...

Bullet selection in 17 and 20 caliber, is not very diverse like a 22 caliber bullet selection is.

however in many local places that sell bullets for handloaders, you don't see many, if any, bullets in 22 calibers on the shelf... or 6mm and one up, except limited 30 calibers.. and highly overpriced...

But THEY DO HAVE 17 and 20 caliber bullets available on the shelves....

There is a selling point in there, if you want to shoot... not a lot of competition for the 17 and 20 cal bullets...even from the hoarders.
