Got a barrel, was thinking of this chambering...
if a 20 Practical is equal to a 22.250 in the field, I was thinking what about a 20 cal with a 250 Case...
anyone here ever built one? Pro's vs Cons?
That might be just what I need for this ocean of 22-250 brass I'm swimming in.
There was a guy over on the Varmint Hunters.com board that built one back around 2000. Crazy fast, but as you would expect, crazy fast barrel burner too.
My buddy built one but I never heard how it went. I found a cartridge in his shop and it looked bad ass.
my opinion-------p/dog or squirrel patch
over bore......
built a 20 BR 7-8 yrs ago......9 twist........55 Bergers.....
That barrel now has a 20-222 chamber
mo better
I've read that the 20-250 and 20-243 have problems with standard 20 caliber bullets. They fly apart at the higher velocities of those 2 rounds.
Well, that's not encouraging news. Better to learn now though...
Well Cliff, we need to look at the bright side... every bright Idea, there is the party pooper that shows up with FACTS....
Micks the Republican, showing up on my democRAT bright idea.
But every cloud has a silver lining.....
tell me a little more about that 22/250 brass you are swimming in, and I'll tell ya how much I'd like to work out a deal with you
to relieve you of that extra brass infestation...
on the other hand, a forum member who wasn't here a long time, did send me a 22.250 AI, that he necked down to 20 cal...
with intention to burn Blue Dot in it...
he sent me a couple of dummy rounds... with a 24 NTX, 32 V Max, and a 26gr Varmint Grenade...... that might be a thought.
go fast without burning out barrels...
I can find 20 cal and 17 cal bullets on line in a lot of places.... 22 cal bullets, good luck...
A bud built a 20-250.
Running the heavy Bergers from it. I do not think they are available anymore.
Never really hear him talk about the rifle much for some reason. Probably because he is always moving from gun to gun/cartridge to cartridge.
Only guns I have ever seen him really hang with as far as hunting with most of the time are his 204 and his 6mm. The 6mm is what he built the 20 on.

I like that idea. How much brass do you need? I have pretty much all brands, some once fired, other new. What about shooting blue dot in the 22-250? Make it a Hornet speed class round.
I've posted load data on Blue Dot in the 22.250.. It was the next case I did after the 223.
Max is 18 grs.
as far as brass, lets talk about that off line...
either PM or I can just give you a call one evening.
This thread continues to be an interesting topic. I've been playing with it in QL and it doesn't look to bad.
a twenty cal barrel, have the chamber body made for a 22.250 and the neck for 20 caliber...
I'd be shooting it with 24 NTXs, 26 gr Varmint Grenades and 32 V Max and Nosler's 32 FB Tipped and HPs.
as far as the brass being necked down to a 20 caliber neck.
I have a die for that from Hornady, a universal neck die they make.. I bought that for $20 a long time ago, to neck 223 down to 20 Practical...
and a 22.250 body die....
was thinking 20 to 22 inch barrel, heavy magnum contour....
roving varminter as I call 'em.... going walkabout with it...
the brass and the case wouldn't be an issue....or dies for it..
the 223 seating die works just fine on the 20 Practical, so I am sure the 22/.250 seating die would pretty much do the same....
or go crazy... how about necking down a 220 Swift? That would fit over bore.... but doing Blue Dot in either would be no real issue...
not practical, but certainly no issue.
Very interesting Seafire, looking forward to seeing the progress.
By the way, not all the side by side diagrams of cartridges are of the same scale. So read the measurements and not the side by side looks.
