I'm looking for load data for my 6x45 shooting 55 grain BT's
does anyone have any data for this?

I thought about starting at the recommended loads for .223 55gr bullets and going from there, but I wanted to see what anyone else thought.

I'm going to be running H335 powder.

I don't have one, but starting with published .223 55 grain loads sounds reasonable to me. You will probably be able to go a little hotter with the larger bullet diameter.

I'll post Ramshot's below with AA2015 which is what I'm running. I'd start with AA21015 or H335...




Caliber: 6mm-223Rem/6mm x 45.

Barrel length: 20�

For 16� barrel reduce velocity by 5% to 6% ca 120 -150 Fps.

For 24� barrel increase velocity 3% to 4% 90 -110 Fps)

Powder: Accurate --- 2015.

Bullet weight: 70 grains.

Start load: 22.5 grains (2500 � 260 ft/p/sec)

Maximum load: 25.0 grains (2800 � 2900 Ft/p/sec). Full case/compressed.

Bullet weight: 75 grains.

Start load: 22.0 grains (2400 � 2500 ft/p/sec)

Maximum load: 24.5 grains (2700 � 2800 Ft/p/sec). Full case/compressed.

I don't know what the barrel length is gonna be, the barrel I bought a couple months ago is junk my gunsmith said. I decided I'll eventually go with a bolt gun instead. the member that sold me the barrel told me tough luck, I should have found out it was bad before and now its my problem.
the whole reason for doing an AR upper project was it would be cheaper than building a whole gun.
hard lesson learned.

I already bought the H335 powder and the 55grain bullets, dies and everything.
I've got 200 rounds of brass already necked up so I'm dedicated to this caliber, and one day will own one. I figure if I load 200 of this first batch and see how it goes, I'll tweak it later when I get it. I know its a backwards way to do it, but I have to do something with all the bad news I've gotten lately, gotta boost my spirits

I do have some IMR 4198 as well.

I'd go with 25 grains of H 322 or 24 grains of RL 7...

I don't use H 335, as I had it blow up 2 actions with a standard accepted load of 25 grains of H 335 and a 55 grain bullet...no one could figure out why.....

with all the other good powders out there, I have more than enough alternatives...

if you want to use flake powders then go with W 748 or Blc2...

Seafire, neither Bl-2, 748 or H-335 are FLAKE powders, they're ball powders. If your H-335 can had FLAKE powder in it I can see why you blew up two action as the only FLAKE powders I know of are much faster burning shotgun or handgun powders.

H-335 powder has been one of my best powders in the 6x45mm with 55gr bullets. I also use it in my 223, 22-204, and 25-204

Siera, Hogdon, Hornady and Lee reloading manuals have data for the 6x45mm. Hogdon has an online sight with data for the 6x45mm and they have a very inexpensive magezine style manual with data for the 6x45mm and anumber of other wildcats.

My 25-204 duplicates factory 250 Savage ballistics with about 10% less powder. 22" Pac-Nor SS barrel.

75gr - 3150 fps Benchmark & H-335

87gr - 3000 fps H-335

100gr - 2800 fps H-4895

The 25-204 is pretty much a 257 Kimber clone with no radical case forming or fire forming, just a straight neck up. Mine is on a Savage 11 action so I have a lot of room and these are loaded to a COL of 2.465"

As every rifle is different what is max for me might not work for you so I don't give out charge weights and expect everyone to workup safe loads.

How much shoulder, if any, is left getting it to .25?

Is this a problem with losing brass or resizing?

Thought about a .25-223 for a bit which I imagine would be mighty similar...

For the 6x47 I had 40 years ago, I used 748 as it delivered the best accuracy in my bench rifle using 60 grain bullets. You might want to add that powder to your test program. The other powders mentioned above are good choices too.

My old Sierra manual predates the 55 gr 6mm bullets, but lists data for their 60 gr HP.

IMR-4198 start at 21.3 maxes out at 22.6
H335 starts at 23.2 and maxes out at 27.8

i can't find anything in my manuals or online for anything less than 60 grain bullets.

does anyone have any published data or a link?

Just use the starting data for the 60's and work from there, my Sierra book lists their data as 55/60gr.

cool thanks, do you think using the .223 55gr data would be just as good?
I'm thinking of making a couple test loads and want more of a range. and probably just for piece of mind mostly

Unless you have a chronograph to tell you what's happenning other than accuracy I think your wasting your time and money working with the 223 55gr loads.

If you can find Steve Timms (Dogzapper here) article on the 6x45mm it's an a great resource. It is included in the book "Wildcat Cartridges" Wolfe Publishing and I've heard that you might be able to get a copy of the article directly from Steve or get an archive copy of "Handloader" magezine that it was published in.

I don't have a chronograph. heck I don't even have the rifle built yet, I just wanted to find a place to start and try a few different loads for when I do get it so I can test and see which one groups the best.
