FWIW, Borrowed my son's new CED M2 chrono for my first velocity tests ever:
6mm Remington, Ruger M77 Tang Safety), 24" Shilen barrel, unfired Fed cases, CCI BR-2 primers, 40 grs N204 powder, 95Gr Nosler Bal Tip seated to 2.82".
5 Rounds averaged 3011fps at about 8 ft,.
This is a big smile on my face.

You need to set the chrony up a little further from the muzzle of the rifle. About 15' ought to work. I don't know if the muzzle blast can actually screw up the unit but it can affect your reading.
