I would like to hear what are some great loads for the .222 I plan of useing it for varmints. What powder and bullet to use in rifle. What is the best.

21.0 gr. of 4198 with about any 50 gr. bullet. 4198 is ole standby for the .222. Try Hornady 50 gr. sx. Has worked good for me.

Yep...Im using 19.0 grains of 4198 behind a Hornady 55 grain bullet.....

4198 is a classic powder choice for the triple deuce.
Have had several that all shot well somewhere between 19-21 grs of 4198 and 50-52 gr bullets.
I like 50gr Hornady vmax for small varmits (are a little more explosive on the smaller stuff than Nosler b-tips), but like b-tips for coyotes (a little tougher bullet), and like the Sierra hollow points for punching paper.
I have an old Sako that dotes on 20grs of 4198 and the 50 gr vmax - 5 shot groups at 100yds into the .2-.3 range.
2015 powder has shot very well in the past as well............

Yep 20.5 Gr. of 2015 behind the 55 gr. Horn shoots exactly like the 19.0 gr. of 4198....I can ( and have) used them interchangeably...

That's the exact same 2015 load I used in the 222 with the 55gr H. spire point - Obviously you are a refined handloader
I shot that same bullet in both my 22-250 (with 4064 powder) and in the 222/223 with different powders back before we had so many bullet choices and plastic tips, etc. - Seems like it was simpler back then , and always got great results.

well, you wont believe thia but MY .22-250 eats 4064 too....

you must be an astute reloader yourself...

Subbing RL-7 for 4198, especially the IMR version, has gotten me very accurate loads with much better metering.

I have run 21 grains for forties and 20.5 for fifties; maxes are usually similar to the 4198's.

Try Calhoon double hollow points. 42 grains. Shot against a steel plate they disolve into a grey cloud, even out at 300 yards. They are very entertaining in a dog town. Boy do they pop! My rifle likes 4198, Blc2, Rx7,Viht 133,,,,,,,

My old standby:

22.2 gr of H322. 50gr Blitz.

+1 on Ball C(2) and Vv N133.

25.0 grains of AA2520, CCI BR4 primer, 50 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip.

as much as Ingwe's experiences mirror mine... I admit that I have even a lot more fondness for RL 7..

I use it a lot in the 223, 22.250 and larger cartridges to boot...this from a guy who easily goes thru 8 to 10 lbs of IMR 4198 ..and 10 lbs of Blue Dot and SR 4759 a year to boot..
in about 18 months or so...

This one is totally new to me. Most of the other loads on this thread...I've heard of and probably tried at one time or another. I don't shoot 55s in my 222(mostly 40s and some 50s); the AR gets the 55 gr action. But I 'll have to try this recipe. Thanks, ingwe; posts like this keep this forum interesting.

My "cheap" load is 19.5 gr. of 4198 behind a 55 gr. Horn in that gun...

Ramshot Xterminator powder meters well and is clean burning; just as accurate as any of the rest.

Light bullets like the 40 gr. Sierra HP work well, also try the Speer 52 gr. HP.

And as noted by other posters, the Hornady SX line of bullets are also very good for hunting.

You will enjoy the .222.

I just had a " Clean up the odds and ends on the bench" session and loaded some 50 gr. TNTs with some H335...anybody tried 335 in the deuce???

Don't know, but 22.2 of H322 behind one does.
