Just picked up a Remington 722 in .222 Rem Mag., anyone have a pet load? Thank you and Good Shooting.
335 and a 50gr V-Max would be a good start.
Travis
28 grains H-335, and a V-max 40 grain bullet makes it the killingest 22 caliber out there. It was around and kicking ass way before some idiot AI'ed the 223...
So Shrap ol Buddy.... you think the 222 Rem Mag is BETTER than your 220 Swift or the plain jane 22.250?
If someone made me keep only 1 22 centerfire, it would be the 222 mag...
Travis and Shrapnel,
Thanks for the input, I will try both loads and see which she likes best.
She will love this one...
There are lots of good 222 Mag powders out there.
748, 335, 2230, BLC-2 will all give top speeds and accuracy with varmint weight bullets and easy metering.
Older stuff like 3031, 4895 and 4064 has always worked. A 1969 IMR manual shows 27.5 grs of 3031 kicking a 50gr Hornady at 3,570 at 50,000psi. I used the same load and hit 3,500.
I happen to like Benchmark the best with 40 or 50gr. bullets.
26.5-27grs. will clock 3,500 in a 23.5 inch barrel with 50 grainers and I run 29 grs. for 3,900 with the 40's.
If looking for newer data/powders to work with, 5.56 NATO data will get you to about the same pressure as the SAAMI .223 Remington, but you still need to work up.
Its not worth a hoot for varmint splatter, but THE most accurate 100yd. load out of 4 222 Mags I've shot (even a fast twisted one) is 27 grs. Benchmark, 53gr Sierra MatchKing, Herter case and a Fed. 205 GM.
She will love this one...
Shrap,
you provide some of the most entertaining pictures...
That is what makes shooting varmints so much fun....Love blowing up sage rats like that... and I tend to like the performance of the good old 40 grainers for how well they make things like that happen...

Im wondering how a .222 mag would be AI'ed..
Gotta find a good Sako and run a reamer into it!
That reminds me, I have an unused 222 Mag reamer here.
Do you have any .223 barrels I can improve?
And please, no gay twist rates.....
Do you have any .223 barrels I can improve?
Ive already Improved three of mine.
GFY

That's called neutering a 222; but it might be spaying since they were .223's.....
Reaming it out to a mag is neutering a .222
No.
It "magnums" the 222.
Got some here to scramble, but the damn things are all 1-14.
But some .223 barrels......
Was shooting a bit of long range the other day and thought Id try the old Rem 'build' I put together, this one
It turned in a 1.25 inch group at 425 yds.( 425 was where my buddy put the backstop.dont ask, don't tell)
Schitty old 1 in 14 twistshooting 50 Vmaxes...
Just got another Remmy 222.
Thing put two weight bullets into the same cluster with a 2x8 Leupy....So I affixed the 10x FX and plan to come close to that...
How the hell was there no wind in Montana?
Nice.
That is above "panache"....
We got up early, before the wind started.
Mine ( both) like anything in a 50 grainer, but they LOVE those Vmaxes...
I see you don't hesitate to scoop up the 300....
Now I see why. Good snag.
Those were Amaxes. Never tried themthey'll go into a .223AI
They're too good for the antiquated .222Mag.
Word.
.222 Mag is like fake tits.
I realize its no AI, but like bolt-ons, probably still fun to play with
Pass 223AI logistics,COAL and performance. Funnier than phugg to have Coke Bottles wax eloquent on slow-twisted Dumb Phuqqery as a "Trump Card"!
Hint................

If someone made me keep only 1 22 centerfire, it would be the 222 mag...
me to
My (1) .224" centerfire wouldn't be a slow-twisted Retard Rifle. I've seen me weigh logistics too...mainly because I shoot a smidge.
Hint..............
I'm looking into the .22-204.. It's way better than the .222 mag.
I keep thinking about the 20,000+ pcs of 223 brass I've got and how a 21" 1-8" 223AI flings 75A-Max at 3100fps+.
Mainly because I've ALL the t-shirts and have seen the other side of the fence.
Hint..................(grin)
I'm looking into the .22-204.. It's way better than the .222 mag.
If your gonna neck up might as well snug up the headspace while your at it.....
Lol, looks like I fueled a debate. Thank you all for the load advice. I look forward to testing some of them out.
There ain't no "debate"...regarding a slow twist .224".
Hint...................
Shoot the crap out of your Mag Deuce and retube with a quicker twist when it gets tired....
Double backwards..............
Fine, dammit.
Throw it in a ditch and buy a Montana....then punch to 222 Mag.....load it with'15 and 75 A-Max.
I'm looking into the .22-204.. It's way better than the .222 mag.
If your gonna neck up might as well snug up the headspace while your at it.....
I'm looking for a sako donor. Gonna make a bofors tomato stake and mcswirl it up.
COAL is a big hurdle there.
Hint..................
Fine, dammit.
Throw it in a ditch and buy a Montana....then punch to 222 Mag.....load it with'15 and 75 A-Max.
You're gaining.
The twist and COAL are there.
Hint............
Plastikka for you.....and swirl it with Krylon.
50's with a plastic tip are about it in the Vixen mag box (like stick said, OAL).
40's work best in the magbox/land arrangement with that case and they'll run plenty fast.
I'm looking into the .22-204.. It's way better than the .222 mag.
NOW we are talking'! No fire forming to boot!
Shrap is getting all spun up now..
If we were to ream a vintage Sako out to a .22-204 do you think he would implode?
It'd by hamstrung big time by COAL and a Montucky 223 would blow it away.
Hint...............
If we were to ream a vintage Sako out to a .22-204 do you think he would implode?
That or the mcswirly would do him in...
I guarantee I'd git it on tape.
It'd by hamstrung big time by COAL and a Montucky 223 would blow it away.
Hint...............
That's not the point, or the intention, cowboy..
HINT!
Don't be in a hurry,to make bad decisions.
I'd much rather have an A1 in Fireball, twisted 8"...so as to have the COAL for the GOOD schit.
Hint!.............
Oh, and we could mount a Tasco scope on it. Silver Antler Series
Just bringing up a 22-204 in a conversation gets him wound past breaking point. A mcswirly would be icing on a giant cake with a big titty girl popping out of it.
Oh, and we could mount a Tasco scope on it. Silver Antler Series
holy balls that would be good.

I heard it first person....at least on the swirly.

Hint!.............
Doing that the hard way might be best served by a 22 PPC.....
I was sad I missed that shoot.
Travis teased the bear constantly.....
Were I to change an A1 bolface,I'd go 22BR 1-8".
Hint..................
I was sad I missed that shoot.
Shooting plastikkas should get you used to missing...
You really are taking/talking the hard way.
This .224" stuff is all new to me.
Laughing!..............
I bet you still wonder why you were always alone on the playground with a pork chop around your neck and dogs chasing you...
Hint...
And here's hoping, you are telling yourself that you rock THE schit outta Coke Bottle glasses!
You Whining Clueless Kchunts are a phuqqing riot!
Don't tease me about all you "know" about this Rifle Stuff.
Hint.
Laughing!...............
Mexican coke or that chitty corn syrup crap?
The THICK kind.
Laughing!.............
I bet you still wonder why you were always alone on the playground with a pork chop around your neck and dogs chasing you...
Hint...
Too bad his folks didn't tie the pork chop around his belt buckle or his pants zipper....
Shefire,
Didn't mean to horn you up.
Again.
Laughing!.................
I'm looking into the .22-204.. It's way better than the .222 mag.
Now you talking good stuff...
Will a .22-204 reamer clean up a .222 Mag chamber?
If so, you have better selection of brass, a tad more case capacity and opening the .204 to .22-204 is super easy. No fireforming needed.
But, I'm more than a bit prejudiced...
DF
I wish someone had told me about it before I tooled up the .223AI.
Sounds like you gals really shoot a "lot".
Laughing!................
Im serious this time.
I shot a real gun once..
You could make a lot of 222 Mags from 204 cases....without fireforming...but that's just a WAG...
Pass the R/P 223 hulls for $79 per 1K delivered,the 1-8" and some 75A-Max.
Hint.................
There. Thats much better.
I like Remmy hulls toocan't exactly say why, but they get AI'ed more often than not.
Im trying to warm up to the 1 in8...
Bought some more 75's,'bout an hour ago................
And I bought some 52 Amaxes to play with. Price was right.
Naw,
I just go get the Mag cases outta the bin....
Money for nuthin, 223 cases are free.
$17 a can for 75 A-Max. Have done better, but I tend to just scoop 'em up.
The only thing I don't shoot 75A-Max in,is things that haven't the RPM or COAL.
Hint..................
You've been well mannered all day, but now you're just being an ass-hole....
I am more versatile.I shoot bunches of schitt, but settle on two loads- one varmint, one game and just play with the rest.seems i never tire of trying 'experiments' when I already know how they'll turn out..
About the only time I get versatile is when I pull away with the left hand...."The Stranger", as it were....
I'm afforded the luxury,of not being forced to guess.
Nice to have the 75's back in Production.................
The 75 has no equal, anywhere or at any angle.
Hint................
About the only time I get versatile is when I pull away with the left hand...."The Stranger", as it were....
Use both hands and you'll have a three-way.
I'll try that....its about shower time....
You could make a lot of 222 Mags from 204 cases....without fireforming...but that's just a WAG...
You'd have to set the shoulder back, not sure about trimming.
MUCH easier to open .204 to .224 and just rock and roll.
DF

They rock in the 222 Mag.....

Are you sure about that?
Are you sure you're not fireforming?
Are any of you broke dicks paying attention here?!
There's NO way they can't not rock, assuming the holes are round.............
Tough to shoot the first poke, without fireforming...no matter the headstamp.
'Course, that fact ruins lotsa folks fun................(grin)
the 80 grain A Max in a 22/204 would trump it in accuracy and ability....bet that just pisses the crap outta ya, don't it Schmuck....
If the 80's('Max or Berger) shined,I'd simply shoot 'em. They do not,so I do not...nor do I know anyone who does.
You are ALWAYS going to be best served by taking notes and applying same.
Hint.

Technically, I guess every piece of virgin brass fired for the first time is fire formed to the chamber.
I never tried to make a .222 mag round out of a .204 case. Just look at the specs. I think the .22-204 shoulder is a bit forward of the .222 mag shoulder, thus the set back.
aalf has posted photos of the differences, has done a lot of work with the .22-204. Do a search and you'll find those photos.
DF
Pard is going the other way, turning Deuce Mag to 204...because the only 204 brass he could score was Hornady and it was ABSOLUTE phuqqing junk.............
Well, Deuce Mag is all Remington, if you can find any...
And, Horn. isn't the only .204 brass out there.
DF
All he could score and threw it off a cliff, less loading any of it again.
I hear good things about R/P hulls...............
Not much diff, really, between a 223 AI, 222 Mag and a 22-204 so far as burning powder and the results.
Something to beat dicks over...
I don't think Al ever had a 222 Mag. case.
One trip through an FL die, set up correctly, will give 110% positive headspace.
222 Mag, 222 Mag Ackley, and a 22-204 mock.
Gotsta love 75's at 3100fps+ via 21" spout and 26grs of powder...............
The 2 on the right are as necessary as nipples on a man...
Well, Deuce Mag is all Remington, if you can find any...

DF
No trouble.
I've got about 2,000 NIB pieces of Herters that some Finnish outfit made....
I run 26.5 grs of 15 in my Remington with 75's. 3,100 but its got a 24" tube.
Also needs bushed....
You gonna
kick punch Rancho in the twins when you see him?
The 2 on the right are as necessary as nipples on a man...
Hey, in Colorado I hear big bucks paid for the big swap over, if one is so inclined...
And boobs to boot...
Just take hormones for that...
DF
The 2 on the right are as necessary as nipples on a man...
Coke Bottles,I've NO doubt that your nipple ID is commensurate with everything else you "know".
Bless your heart.
Laughing!............
Got 'em from 18-26" and from 7" to 14".
1-8" 3-grooved 21" is where it's at.............
shrap really needs a 1-16, just to make it fair for everyone else....the 1-14's weren't a handicap for him.
He outshot my azz.
Ain't in the cards.
Hint..................(grin)

I did it with your ammo too, thanks, I still have some left. You headed this way again, soon?
My ammo? Now I'm really depressed...
Prolly next spring, I'm hoping.
Hope to stay longer and make a wide berth, maybe see the cowboys up north and bring them all the handguns they care to shoot.
I'm thinking a week or two, terrorizing the whole damn state....
I run 26.5 grs of 15 in my Remington with 75's. 3,100 but its got a 24" tube.

Reminds me,I should have another flat rate box here somewhere, with a freshly massaged bolt and threaded handle.
Midway was blowing out a bunch of bolt knobs, for like 6 Clams a pop and there should be a goodly herd of them either here,or enroute.
Generally takes a coupla days, for me to get all the mail sorted out............
Took 2hrs to find the new Montucky.
I just shrug my shoulders................(grin)
I remember years ago when you bought a couple of 4.5-14x50 MkIV Leupolds on a Midway eblast blowout. You even wrote you hated them while you ordered them.
It was a fact.................(grin)
What's the miscellaneous "parts bin" look like?
Oh,there's probably an odd and an end, floating about.
Never was much into phuqqing around.................
My old man was in the gas pipeline and compressor station business. Down time wasn't smiled upon. When he bought parts it was always "a pair and a spare."
The only thing I've ever had or wanted (1) of,is a Wife.
I remain more than a bit partial to the Old Gal.............
You gonna
kick punch Rancho in the twins when you see him?
I talked to shrap yesterday night. While drugged up pretty good, he still had plenty if life still in him. Not the time to take a wheelbarrow into the basement just yet.
WTF did he do to himself. I saw his thread, but no explanation.
Fell over in conniptions when someone mentioned sakos and mcswirlys..
Poor Coke Bottles simply hasn't seen much.
I'll help her out...2nd from right of frame. A1,McMillan swirled,PN,223AI,yada,yada.
Laughing!...............
Is that the one with the 1 in 14 twist?
Sweeeet...
If you are into phuqqing around..................(hint)
I am! Ive got a 1 in 12 on a skookum B&C stockyou'd love it!
It do like 50 Vmaxes though..and 55 TTSXs.
Like I tell guys...jerking off is a pretty good trick, until you whittle your first chunk of ass, then it loses alotta appeal in direct extrapolation.
You're jerking off.
Hint.
Laughing!................
I was hoping you wouldn't make me do this
I know you have a 1 in 12 and a 1 in 14 hiding someplace!
7,8,9,10,12 and 14".
If it don't stabilize the 75A-Max...it's a DISTANT 2nd Fiddle.
Hint.
Laughing!..............
Ahh yes. But my point being that you had to phuqq around yourself to find that out!
Im not done phuqqing around yet!
( you know I take advice s-l-o-w-l-y)
Everyone built in accords to what bullets existed at the time. Hint.
One shot with a 75 will more than paint the picture in vibrant fashion. Trouble was,one couldn't gun 75's until they was invented.
Hint.............
Thats just an alibiI'll have to check it out.
Facts is facts.
It's never not been ALL about the bullet.
Hint...............
OKenough of this!
Im working on a conspiracy theory elsewhere!
Turbine1: Both of my Varminters in caliber 222 Remington Magnum LOVE the plain jane 50 grain Sierra Blitz bullets!
ALL manner of Varmints have "succumbed" to this accurate and lethal projectile from my 222 Magnums.
My Browning though does prefer BLC-2 powder whilst my Sako enjoys H 4895.
I use Federal 205 Match primers in both and Remington cases as well.
Best of luck to you with the new/old Remington 722, and good shooting right back at'cha!
GO Seahawks (I delayed my departure to our high country archery Elk camp to watch this game tonight so's the Seahawks had better put on a good show).
Hold into the wind
VarmintGuy
he who smelt it, dealt it?
poco lolo: That smell you noticed is your turd self!
Getting tired of it?
He-he!
You sorry turd, you have SO NOTHING of substance to add here!
You are not only tiresome and worthless - you stink!
Sheesh.
Hold into the wind
VarmintGuy
I only have one (so far) and it loves H-4895 and 50 gr B/tips. Last five shot group I shot with it was 0.6"...and it's an old Remington 722
I think Varmintgay might now consider you turdlike
I think he needs to use more exclamation points..........
