Just got my 8 twist 22-250 AI back from the 'Smith last week and I' very been forming some brass.

I'm looking for loads with bullets ranging from the 62tsx up to the 80 grain target bullets.

I have a bunch of 75 amax and some 75 vlds to try so some 75 grain data would be great.

Also I have some 70 tsx, is anybody using them? I'd like to hear how they perform in some loads as well

Thanks for the input

I have been tinkering with the 22-250AI for many years, have gone through about a dozen barrels and currently have 3 rifles chambered in this round. One is a Krieger, one is a Shilen and one is a Pac-Nor. My favorite load is 42.0gr RL19 with 80gr Berger VLD's ,Lapua brass and Fed210 primers.

I have tried the 75gr Amax several times and it does not work as well in this round as it does in smaller cases.

Other powders that work well with the 75-80grainers is IMR4831 and VVN160.

Dont know what kind of brass you are using but they vary quite a bit in the base with Win.and Rem. being the smallest and Federal and Lapua being the biggest. if you are getting a big belly out in the web area with Win.or Rem. brass switch to Fed. or Lapua or even Norma for a better chamber fit. Most reamers that a gunsmith has on hand in this chambering are on the large size.

Thanks boatanchor.

I want to get some 80 bergers and amax's to try.
I, very been FF with Remington brass but I plan on picking up 100 pieces of lapua.

I appreciate the info

I'd like to hear what's worked for others too

A friend reports having best results in his 1-9" twist with H414.

Thanks tom

Anybody else?

Try H4350 and H414. I have had a couple 22-250 AI's and H414 has been the winner for me.

H4350 was the ticket for 75 gr Amax's in mine.
Varget for 53 gr TSX's
and I believe R 15 for the 62gr TTSX's.

Thanks guys.

I shot some 75 amax's with Re 15 & H4350 this weekend, 36 grains of 15 got me to 3200 and 39 grains of 4350 got me to just a touch under 3200. Accuracy went both were good and no pressure signs.

I am gonna bump the charges up some more and try some slower powders. I was expecting to see 3300 to 3400 FPS with 75's, is that unrealistic in a 23" barrel?
Posted By: BillyGoatGruff Re: 22-250 AI load data - 07/12/15
my barrel was also 23" and I was getting 3300 with the amax's and 39 gr of 4350. Others on here got there too, but at 40-41 grains I believe. I never chrono'd the loads out of mine at those charges, but I did shoot for groups at .5 grain increments up to 41 grains. Was too hot for my rifle, and less accurate anyways.

Was getting 3800 out of the 53s.

thanks Gruff

I worked up loads using for a 68gr HPBT using RL-15, RL-17, and RL-19. I reached max pressure signs without ever breaking 3300 consistently. RL-19 shot well but just under 3200 with a max of 41 gr. RL-15 gave the highest velocity with poorest accuracy, 35.0gr at 3300. RL-17 was most accurate and at max pressure. 37.5gr gave 3280. Accuracy was great so I quit load work for this year. Maybe next year I will be ready to try other powders to search for more velocity.

Yeah. Those are really slow speeds....

I'm getting 3650 fps with a molyed 62gr TTSX and R15

That's rockin' George.
62's that fast have to flatten deer.
May I ask your charge of '15 for those speeds?

I loaded some more to test with stouter charges of H4350 and also plan on trying some RL17 and H4831.

I'd like to try some RL 19 but can' t find any locally.

38 gr of 15 got me 3500 in mine. And it kills wonderfully. grin From 425 on in.

I shoot the 62 ttsx in my 223ai and have been really pleased with them too.

I can't imagine that an extra 300 or more fps moving them along will be anything but a good thing

Molyed pills over 39gr R-15 24" barrel...its Thor's hammer on deer

Resurrection of an old post. So. I was like a cod fish after a herring when Whitaker's put the RAR stainless barrel .22-250 1:8 on sale for $279 shipped.
It's been sitting here for a week or two.

Now I'm thinking ream it out to an .22-250 AI. Has anyone on the fir tried this with this RAR model ? Experience ? Accuracy with 69 to 85 grain bullets ?

Same load is lights out on caribou, as well!

My .22-250AI wears a 22" barrel, but it still likes 39gr of RL-15 to push a molyed 62gr TSX.

RL26 and 70gr RDFs are fast an accurate in mine.

37g of Win 760 with Federal 210 is pumping out the 62g ttsx at 3700, work up to this load in your rifle.

R#15 proved rough on throats.

Was thinking of seeing how RL 16 and some 80 grain ELD-Ms might work out...

also have some 73 and 75 grain ELD-Ms...

Pac Nor Barrel, 1 in 7 twist.
