Anybody running the 6-223 in a bolt gun with a 22"+ barrel?

Thinking of having a gun rebarreled and this is a cartridge that interests me.

Nosler lists the .243 55 grain BT at a higher B.C. than a .224 55 grain pill so "IF" the bigger bore can hustle the same weight bullet a bit faster it should in theory shoot a bit flatter than the 223 with 55s.

Some of the data and posts I am finding show quite a few heavily compressed loads. Was hoping maybe newer powders had helped eliminate some of this.

Any input and advice would be appreciated.

I have one with a 21" barrel, it is my go to coyote gun. I shoot 58 and 65 Hornady v-max with 748 powder .I use 58 go the most. I never have chronographed it but it always suprises me how good it kills coyotes.

might try a pm to GregW I think he's had one for years. I load mine with H-335 or TAC. I shoot a lot of the Nosler shots when I'm plinking.

which always makes me wonder why I don't just shoot a .223?!?

Have to admit, 6x45 is more fun for me, even though it costs more, and I doubt it outperforms the .223 (for my uses and distances).

The more I learn the more I am sure I will just stick with the 223.
About a year ago, rebarreled my Savage Axis 223 to 6X45 (aka 6mm-223) with a 26" Shaw Varmit contour barrel. Varmit contour is on the heavy barrel side. Its one of my more accurate rifles and do enjoy shooting it at range I'm a member. I rebarreled the Axis because I had a heavy barrel .223 Marlin XS rifle that shoots darn good for accuracy and I wanted something different to play with.

Guess I've tried up to around six different powders in my reloads with different grain 6mm bullets up to 105 grain. Depending on my reload/powder/bullet/its weight and etc., some shot decent and some shot great, when it comes to 100 yd accuracy. I'm talking 1/4" to maybe 5/8" groups or just a tad bigger.

I built my son one on a bighorn action, a brux barrel, a jewell trigger, and an xlr element chassis for the adjustable LOP. The barrel finished at 20", and we run it suppressed. We have 95gr Nosler Ballistic tips in the sub half moa range, doped out to 2900fps via 8208. Furthest we shot was 600.

With 95 smk's, we have consistent hits at 1000 with dope that beats a 308/175 combo. Love the round, and I'm building a "clone" for me with a model 7, timney, broughton, and an xlr element chassis.

I've had a couple of 6x45 bolt guns, still have one.
They are great to me if you want to shoot 80 grain and heavier bullets or if you need to thwart a 6mm cal big game minimum.
Otherwise, I'd stay with a 223. You can buy a nice 223 for a fraction of the cost of a build and have lots of versatility with different bullets.
