I am currently shooting 60gr sierras hpbt but I'm looking to go heavier. Shooting 1 in 9 223. Would like to go up to the 69gr match kings or maybe heavier again. If possible. Any experience or recomondations be greatly appreciated ☺

Depending on your altitude, and whether you actually have a true 1:9 (some barrels are slightly faster, some slightly slower twist) you might get past a 69gr, but generally that seems to be the limit for that twist in .223's.
Instead of buying a whole box, take a look at the Bullet Exchange thread under the Big Game Rifle reloading Forum. Someone might have the bullets you want to try.

The only way to really know is to shoot them.
All the best in your search!

My 9 twist Savage shoots the 65 gr. Gamekings and 69 gr. Matchkings very well.

Not quite as heavy as you are asking about, but mine does well with 65 gr Gamekings also.

I never said it didn't .

I`ve shot both the Nos. 80 costom comp, BTHP and the Sierra 80 BTHP MK`s out of my Mod12 .223 1x9 over IMR 4895 with excellent result. The heavest I`ve tried, and the Horn 77gn BTHP is another excellent bullet. I find the 9 will not shoot a tipped 75 gn A-Max. tho. 65 gn. Sierra`s shoot very well.

I think my 10 FP was a nine twist and really really liked 60 and 62 grainers, liked 69s just fine if a little less "groupy." But you should be all right.

Should be OK...Ive shot bunches of 68 gr. match in a 1 in 10 twist....but as someone said, it may depend a bit on altitude....still should be OK...

My 1/9 shoots the 68/69gr bullets great but will not shoot the 75gr Hornady BTHP. I never got key holes but I never could get groups from them

Currently feeding mine 69gr Sierra but 68gr Hornadys need to be tested as well along with 70gr RDF when the show up.

Hornady 75 hpbt does good from a 1-9" in my experience.

Had a factory 1-9" that was actually 1-9.25" and it wouldn't shoot them.

I can't squeeze past the 69's in my 1-9 twist. but then again I'm at sea level and the air is always thick enough to cut with a knife. But, that's ok- I have no intention of ever shooting the wee beastie past 200 yards or so, and the 50 and 55's are just dandy for that.

Same with my Ruger mkII 1 in 9. I'm almost scared to try the 73gr. ELD's I recently got for my AR's...

I was curious about the 73gr elds
Posted By: APDDSN0864 Re: 223 1 in 9 twist - 07/25/17
Google 73 gr ELD

There are a number of threads in Predatormasters, Snipersforums, and others discussing this same thing. The consensus is, they are marginally stabilzed in a 1:9. Hornady's calculator says "marginally", Berger's says that they should work.

Only way to know is to shoot some.

They might could work.

Moot point if you're not shooting real far or in lots of wind.

I shoot Nosler 70 grain RDF at sea level and they work well. I have shot them out to 600 yards and drift / drop is spot on based on the stated bc. I shoot mine in a Savage 223 9 twist with a 26" barrel at around 3100 fps.

Great thread.

I just bought a new .223 25 Savage Walking Varminter with a 1:9 twist. So Far I have worked up very accurate Loads up to the 62 Gr Barnes TTSX . I shoot Ground hogs, coyotes and deer. I think I may just stand pat with with the 53 Gr Sie HP Match for varmints and keep the 62 GR Barnes for deer. Both loads shoot consistently just less than MOA. I am also very happy with the 6.9 lb weight of the rifle.

Bullet length more of a twist factor than weight.

True, dat.

I load 60 grain Partitions for deer and either 60 grain AMax or BTs for coyotes in my 1-9" and 1-10" ROT 223s AND 22-250s.
