I bought a browning x bolt varmint stalker all camo mossy oak brush country. It is a 22-250 I had some 52 gr amax already loaded over varget. shot prob 1/2 in or so. the 55 grain fact hornady vmax not so well. Does anyone know the twist on these barrels? thanks I appreciate any info
The 22-250 Hunter model is a 1-9'' twist. I suspect yours is too. Do you have the factory box?
no unfortunately it doesn't. I bought it used. That is the twist I'm hoping for but what little I find on the net some are 1-14. If not the 52 amax is a great bullet. only prob I see so far is I'm single shooting it because my hand loads for a different rifle are to long for the detachable magazine. I just hope when I seat them short enough it doesn't effect accuracy
Would hazard a guess it’s a 1:14. The similar “Predator Hunter” Browning made a few years back had a faster-twist barrel (either 8 or 9). Planned on buying one but Browning didn’t bother to lengthen the magazine to accomodate longer-loaded ammo. Duh.
I bet it’s a 1 in 14. It will like 50 grain bullets, some 55 like the Nosler Ballistic tips. No Barnes over 50 grains, 60 grain partitions, iffy.
Hanco I have shot hornady vmax 55 not great but not bad. varget and 52 amax ate around shot really well. thanks for the reply
Rowdy you are exactly right everyone knows how short hornady vmax factory ammo is and they will barely fit the magazine.
Just to the cleaning rod test so you know for sure.
Does anyone have a rifle which shoots 55gr Horn Vmax well? My old 1:12 Sav VLP barely holds groups to MOA, while it has shot 50gr Vmax's down to 1/4" five shot groups. Rebarreled a 788 22-250 to 1:12 with the same result.
As a side note: Love my three BLIND MAGAZINE Savage VLP's. Have yet to find a problem with too long OAL for any load. Wish manufacturers would make detachable magazines at least 1/8" longer!!

Unfortunately Browning uses the super short action on the 22-250 instead of their standard short action.
Ok it is a 1-9 twist. 26 in barrel. what weight bullet would everyone suggest? and will seating the longer bullets deep enough to fit the magazine be a huge concern? thanks
I would start with the Hornady 75gr HPBT the Sierra or Nosler 69 grain bullets also usually shoot very well. The magazine length isn’t ideal but won’t give you problems loading them.
