Has anyone here reloaded for either of these calibers? If so have you any bullets over 100gr in them, I was looking at trying a 117gr. hornady in the 25-45 sharps?

6x45... yes. Nothing over 100 grains. To me, the ballistic advantage would be lost with bullets of that weight. My 6x45 sends 85gr SGKs out at 2705 FPS. It is DEADLY on whitetails and pigs.

6x45 and 6TCU. I have found both to perform over what most figure they should. A wide variety and types of bullets. At the reduced speed compared to say 243, SOME of the varmint bullets perform well on deer sized critters. I use 55-80 grain bullets for my needs.

The selection of 25 bullets is some what sparse. 25-20 and 25-35, then right to the 257 or 25-06. Often times the bullets that do work well in the 25x45 are hard to find. Use the 6.8 case and the will open some options on bullet performance.

I run the 243 in that velocity range, and can verify, it'll drop a blacktail with no problem... with the right bullet selected...

75 and 80 grain varmint bullets work well, as does the 80 grain Ballistic Tip...

most of my hunting is 200 yds or less...

was also reading an article on the development of the Grendal, in an older magazine I picked up off the table over at the gun range on Friday...at the Club House..

it compared a 123 grain bullet at 2400 fps out of the Grendal to a 110 grain Bullet out of a 6.8 SPC...

6.5 bullets are like a 6mm bullet.. they really do have a flat shooting capability, and still carry enough energy to do a good job at 300 meters plus..

I know that from seeing it in action, but the article just reinforced that once again...

a 6 Grendal out of a Howa Shorter Action would be a nice round to play with in the field and at the range..

In my opinion the 25-45 doesn't have enough capacity to shoot anything over 100gr. I have shot a 25-204 for 15 yrs, 100gr Partitions at 2850 a much better bullet for hunting than any of the 117's.

My 6x45 is a coyote hunting rifle and lives on 55gr LF NBT's and 58gr V-max, I load for accuracy and have never put it over a chrono.

If I had a .25-45, I would try the Nosler 85 grain BT first. As stated above, the reduced velocity turns varmint bullets into deer bullets.

Agreed on the varmint bullets started at 2,700 or less fps. The VMAX is a pretty good deer round when pushed at pedestrian speeds.

105 Amaxes in my 6x45 bolt gun. I'm using AR-Comp powder.

Have a 22" light tapered contour Contender Carbine barrel by Match Grade Machine in 25-45sharps now, and previously owned a 21" bull 6mmTCU.

In both i never tried anything over 100grains, and finally ended up shooting stuff in the 85-87-90gr weight class for both of them more than any other bullet weights; those expanded & performed well at those speeds.

In the 25-45 sharps TC barrel; Speer 87's shot quite well, in the 2700fps range using several powders...it seems fond of both 4198 and H335. My barrel is a 1-10" twist & has preferred shorter non-tipped bullets.

TradHunte: here is 1 1/2 tons of 6x45 load data. Some of the data files are 6-7 pages of just loads. I have a 6 TCU rifle (think 6x45 40deg IMP) and the main drawback that I see with the 25x45 is the lack of light weight varmint .257 bullets.
