60 grain Hornady FP - 14.5 grain 2400 CCI400 - This is the load I've used the most, but it may not be the best

I am going more loads with the 75 grain and perhaps a couple of slower burning powders for the 75 Grain bullets

1680 & 680 (if you can find it) are great powders for the .256. Foolish I sold a 21" Contender barrel along with forming dies. I still have a 10" Contender barrel along with several hundred factory loads. A fun Cartridge to play with, & will really roll up a Groundhog.

Evenin gents, I had a Marlin 62 in 256, lots of fun. Yes I wish I still had it!!! Out to 200yds it's a real coyote flopper. I considered it my heavy bullet hornet, pretty much same trajectory just heavier bullets. Stay safe. Bill out. πŸΎπŸ‘£πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

I have mostly 256 brass, but I have over 50 formed from 357. A couple of days ago I thought I'd try forming from 357 again. I had not done that since the 70's.
I have heard that 30 Mauser dies work well for the first pass in forming, then use full length 256 dies. I don't have 30 Mauser dies.

What worked for me was to run the 357 brass into the full length 256 dies until the shoulder was starting to form, then I ran the case into a 32 S&W long die enough to look like a 30-256 cartridge. Then I ran the case into the 256 die again.

Am I to understand that you took a perfectly good Winchester M92 like maybe in .25-20 and made it into a .256 Win. Mag? Gramps gave me an octagon barreled M92 .25-20 and having grown up when the Ruger Hawkeye and the .256 Win. Mag hit the market, the thought did cross my mind to change the .25-20 into a .256 WM. Hard as .25-20 factory ammo is to find, .256 WM would be impossible and that old buck horn sight arrangement doesn't lend itself to magnum shooting distances anyway.

My dad took a beat up 25-20 with a washed out eroded barrel - rusty too. He installed a new barrel chambered it to 256 Win Mag when 256 Win Mag first came out. It was my first prairie dog rifle.
But thanks a lot for your ignorant criticism.

Mr Bugger sir, it's your gun, your bullets, & cases, who cares, what some other 🀑 thinks !!!!! Carry on. When I had mine I made cases from 357 brass by first running them through the seating die, then the full length die, no problem! Nickel cases were a pain in the azz. Wanted to separate 60gr flat points from 75 sp. wish the 70 grain sierras were available back then, would have been something else to play with. Enjoy. Bill out. πŸΎπŸ‘£πŸΎπŸ‘£

My 256 Win Mag is a 14" TC Contender Custom Shop barrel. I use 357 Mag brass cases to form 256 WM. I load 75 gr Sierra bullet over 14.5 gr Lil Gun and a Rem 6 1/2 primer.

I've often wondered if there was enough recoil to worry about a 75 grain HP bullet in the tube magazine to set off the cartridge ahead of it.
But, I have only used cast, 60 grain Hornady FP, 60 grain factory Winchester & 75 grain Speer FP in my lever gun. I used to have a contender with octagon barrel in 256, I used 75 grain HP's in that.
