I have seen some slugs molds that look good. One made by LEE for about $18. There are other for more like $45. I was wundering if anyone had experice reloading slugs or with these molds. The one from LEE uses 1oz. of lead and a reguler wad & crimp.<BR>It looks like a good if you rilly can load good slugs for the cost of trap loads.<BR>, thanks

I wouldn't waste the time and money, because you can't get the accuracy you get factory slugs.Just my .02.

I've heard good reports from people casting and loading the lee key type slug. It fits in a standard shot cup, the shot cup acting like a sabot, gripping it to impart spin for stabil flight,( assuming of course a rifled barrel). Also because it is mostly hollow in back it will still work in smoothbore slug or shot barrels.<P>On the other hand you will invest a lot of time and money in working up a load for this. If you love to tinker and experiment then go for it. You could buy the most expensive sabots and come out ahead. [img]images/icons/shocked.gif" border="0[/img]

It's not worth the hassle, when you can purchase different brands and find the accuracy that you're looking for with that type of ammo.<P>Slugs are simular to .22 rimfire in the fact that you shoot 'em, shuck 'em and move on down the road. Yes, Hastings makes a Rifled bbl. for the A-5, I picked one up on Ebay for 80bucks a few years ago. You want a newer one, the old ones had terrible sights and you could not change them. Man, does that thing kick with the newer 1oz sabots, much more than my old 870 but it chucks them out there faster. New bbls. are available @ Cabelas for about 300.00 <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />.

I went through the slug reloading "bug", by the time I was done buying all the stuff and tying them out, my shoulder hurt and so did my wallet. Once you have your gun sighted in, you only need to shoot a few before the season and then whatever you shoot @ deer, I don't know anyone who enjoys plinking with slugs. I shoot 15 slugs per year and @ $7.00/box, it's not worth reloading for me. Be careful, there is not alot of data for slug reloading and switching components can be dangerous.
