I picked up 2 sealed cans of HS-5 powder (OLD cans!)

The powder appears perfect and I have already used cans of similar age from teh same auction lot with no problems, but my Hogden load manual is too new to list HS-5 powder.

Can anyone give me a link to or email me a load for HS 5 in 12 gauge? I would be looking for a trap load with #8 shot or a hunting load with #4 shot (for turkeys).

I just checked hodgdon's website and they don't even list it in the load data. I would give em a call and see what they have to say.

If you can find an old shotshell manual like a Lyman third edition, you'll find data for HS5 and even some older powders like the Alcan propellents.

HS 5 is far too slow for a trap load, but it works fine for a heavy hunting load (it's the same as WW 473).
