Is anybody using Promo powder?

Our club is having a group buy of components, and I can get an 8 lb jug for $30-40 less than my normal Clays/Universal Clays/Int'l Clays.

I load 410, 28, 20, and 12 ga, all in "target" loads (sporting clays/skeet). From their info, it looks like this stuff is for the 12 ga only.

I'm off to look in to more specific load data, but wondering about impressions and experiences from those who have actually used it.

Thanks!

I have used a lot of it(over 100lbs). It is the same data as Red Dot. I load 12ga 3/4oz using 16.5gr Promo with CB0134-12 wads as my main practice load. I also load 18.5gr Promo with CB4100-12-B wads and 7/8oz. I shoot lots of them for practice and tournaments. It is inexpensive & makes nice looking reloads. Not a bad thing to say about Promo. Many of my friends use it now. I shoot 500-800 rounds each week.

I used 19.5g in a 7/8 oz load with a BP wad, holy cow what great patterns at 1300 fps,12ga.

I use alot of it for 1oz. 12 gauge loads for trap/skeet. Works fine. When it first came out I spoke to an Alliant tech. guy about load data. He told me to use Red Dot data BY WEIGHT not volumne. He explained that Promo has slightly more bulk to it than Red Dot so a bushing that throws a certain amount of Red Dot will be throwing lower charges of Promo. Check what your bushings throw on a scale to find the right one to use with Promo. I use an adjustable charge bar on my reloader so I don't have to deal with bushings.

Yep, saw that.

I always weigh charges to be sure that the chosen bushing is throwing the charge I want. Like I said somewhere else, that's usually one or two off from what the chart tells me to use. crazy

Anyway, ordered two 8 pound jugs yesterday. With 16 pounds of it, I hope I like it! laugh

I use it in my 12 and 16 for 7/8 oz loads. Grat powder. I have heard some people say it burns dirtier, but I haven't noticed that.

I use the load above with the Ballistic products EML wad, it is really fantastic at 1300 fps.
