What is the difference between a 209 primmer ans a CCI 157 primer?

The CCI 157 (and Remington 57 primer) is of smaller diameter than the 209 series primer. It was used in many Remington cases made into the late 1970s. It has been obsolete for roughly 40 years.

I have a muzzle loader barrel that fits on an Remington 1100 receiver. I use Remington 57 and CCI 157 in this barrel. Pull the bolt back with the port facing down and the spent primer will fall off the nipple and down o the ground. 209 primers fit tight and sometimes have to be pried off the nipple. I have several hundred which is several lifetimes supply.

A friend of mine used up the last he had by cutting a small piece of drinking straw and fitting the small cylinders onto the small end of the 57 primers before inserting in a 209 prime sized shotshells.
