I bought this rifle back in Feb. of 2014 from Carl Ross who had it put together by IT&D. It consists of an older Rem. 700 action - ser. # 654644X. It has an older “Walker” type trigger but not original to the action as the bolt has the cut to be locked down by the old style safety but the safety on the rifle currently isn’t that type. It has a Pac-Nor #2 contour, 1-8” twist, 3 groove SS barrel cut at 21” overall length. It was throated for 75 grain Amax bullets seated at 2.45”. It has a deep floor board crown and “grit” blast finish. All the metal parts have some wear and scuffs marks from use but not abuse. The firing pin was bushed by Get-Tan. Carl modified the ADL magazine box to accept the longer cartridges. I made the fancy aluminum spacer that fits on the front of the follower to keep it properly located in the magazine box during loading.
Carl said he shot 200 of 75 Amaxs through it with Tac powder. Since I bought it in 2014 I shot 200 of the 75 Amaxs with Varget until they both became unobtainable so a Campfire member suggest Nosler 77 CC and sent me a handful. They shot very well some R-15 powder I had. So approx. 150 of those. I also fire formed some factory ammo through it. Fiocchi 50 Vmax ammo shoots great and IMI 77 sierra MK loads did almost as good. So I have put less than 500 rounds through it, mostly slow fire plinking with my friends at my steel targets. I have done no prairie dogging with it and the throat looks goods with the rifling still crisp. A now deceased gunsmith friend I showed it to said there is enough “meat on the shank” that the barrel could be set back once and rechambered to eventually get even more life out of it, if you are a high volume varmint shooter.
I had it most recently in a chassis style stock. They are great for shooting prone but my back doesn’t enjoy that position so I sold the chassis to a friend who really wanted it. I just have it an old style Rem factory ADL stock currently. I know most gun looneys have a collection of Remington 700 parts and stocks so I am willing to sell it configured how you might want or need it.
So (shipped, insured to your FFL from a private individual) I want:
$675 for just the barrel, action, and trigger. (FYI Pac-Nor charges $300 just to fit and chamber to your action, on top of the cost of the barrel)
$725 to include the ADL modified magazine box, follower, trigger guard, and hex head action screws
$775 for the whole rifle as pictured.
I can take additional photos and send via cell phone if there is a particular view you want to see. I have a reloading die set and fire-formed brass too if the rifle buyer is interested.
