Have some factory loads of ammo sitting around I will probably never use and was wondering the best way to ship it. Does it cost an arm and a leg?

Not too bad.

UPS.

UPS Ground marked ORM-D

UPS or FedEx. There's a new label as of January 1. Not ORM-D.

I got my ass racked by UPS for putting the ORM-D sticker on my box a week ago. It has to be the "diamond" with north and south tips shaded black. UPS has the symbol posted on their website that can be printed and taped to opposite sides of the box. Google "UPS shipping ammo" and you should be able to find the correct black and white diamond label.

Apparently someone sued UPS over the "ORM-D small arms" labels because people were stealing the boxes with that sticker....pedestrians, UPS employees, ???

Price to ship isn't too bad depending on the amount. Seems cheaper the more you ship. I shipped 6 boxes of pistol ammo from PA to TX for $16...if that helps.

This change has been in the works for almost a decade and I heard about it one of my haz-mat classes. DOT changed their regs in 2011 in-order to 'harmonize' them with International standards. Here's a link to a UPS webpage about the change: https://www.ups.com/us/en/help-cent...ts/hazardous-materials/ground-orm-d.page

Here's another link to a webpage from a haz-mat consultant about this change: https://www.lion.com/Lion-News/October-2020/Unphased-ORM-D-Ends-Dec-31,-2020

I just ask for the new stickers at my UPS terminal and they give them to me. IMO, UPS would rather have you use the correct label since it saves them a lot of grief.

Let the buyer cover the shipping.

UPS Customer Center (not the UPS store)
Diamond on point taped on one side of box.
Cost is no different than any other parcel.
They will ask for photo ID and what is in the box. (ammunition is correct answer)

I highly recommend continuous 360 wraps of strapping tape around your box.

Does no one use the search feature. This was just covered with over 5 pages of posts.

Search feature here would bring up everything except what you were searching for unless I've been doing it wrong which is possible.

If everyone used the search feature there wouldn’t be any new threads. 270 vs 30-06 anyone?

It can be a little goofy. But once you learn its quirks it's sorta okish. smile Current results of just serching "shipping" in the classifieds.

The search feature on this forum is completely useless, especially since it changed a couple years ago, and since it limits the number of results. Folks are better off using google (as much as I hate google).

Enter Whatever it is you are searching for site:24hourcampfire.com. As an example, "shipping ammo" site:24hourcampfire.com

I just shipped some ammo from PA to TX. The box weighed 9 lb and it cost me $40.00. Not cheap.

They are considers haaderous material and require special shipping license. The result is that the are very expensive to ship for the average guy.
