Vari-X 3-9 Compact. Couple good nicks but very good for the age. Probably 85-90%. 1986. No box. Friction adjustment.

Scopes are not like guns in my opinion as they do not go up in value when they get old. Old scopes are just old scopes and they are have less glass coating protection, are less fog proof and have inferior adjustments compared to modern optics. Seals dry out and the protective gases within will leak out. You will see ads for scopes made many years ago with asking prices well in excess of what they cost new.

I seriously doubt you will find many Leupold scopes selling today for what they sold for 18-20 years ago,so in spite of your opinion,they indeed do go in up in value, plus the fact that they have a lifetime warranty.I would say 5-550 for the pair.

Absolutely none of this applies to Leupold scopes.
The VX-3 will easily bring $325-350, and the 3-9 Compact should sell around $175...maybe a little more to the right buyer (depending on the condition).

Leupolds are worth the warranty so expect to pay up a little even on the old ones, if it fails, send it back. It will be repaired, but often replaced. Many people say new, new, new, but marketing drives the quality train these days and everyone has the budget or entry level products, so the quality isn't their. Also try buying a new gloss scope these days, so your better off buying lightly used. To each their own, if you want new, buy new, buy doesn't mean it won't fail.

Take a look at " Vintage Scopes" if you think old scopes don't appreciate. There are those nostalgia seekers that pair old scopes with old firearms.
Of course, on the site mentioned , a lot of scopes have been re-furbished.
