225's @ 2600fps and you'll have a certified brown bear weapon.

Ooohh, I love me some 35 whelen. Be careful on the weight if i can at least offer an opinion. I have a model 70 featherweight classic built on a Krieger #3.with a McMillan. Incredible shooter, but it will make a man out of you. 225 nosler partition at just under 2700 FPS. Best elk medicine ever

Bob is a great guy to deal with. I bought several items from him and they are always as good or better than described!

I have a project Mauser in 338-06, if you want to go down in bore and up in SD
Posted By: matt_allen Re: WTB 35 Whelen - 08/11/21
Iowa just legalized the use for deer so I’m gonna just be shooting whitetails.
Posted By: matt_allen Re: WTB 35 Whelen - 08/11/21
Anybody got a way to get ahold of bob on rockslide I don’t have an acct over there
Posted By: LEADMINER Re: WTB 35 Whelen - 08/11/21
Wow! I hadn't seen that change. Just looked at Iowa regs and it appears rifles .35 and over can be used which would not allow .338-06 but would allow .35 Rem, Whelen or .358 etc. Is that your understanding, Matt?

This. A 35 Whelen needs a bit of weight.

Yes sir lead miner. Double checked with officer and he says I am correct

Recoil is not an issue I’m used to a 12 gauge with 3” deer slugs

The whole point is big heavy slow. Frozen chisel plow corn field and fast flat shooting bullets equals a lot of shot hunters
Posted By: Bugger Re: WTB 35 Whelen - 08/12/21
Love those 35's.
Posted By: LEADMINER Re: WTB 35 Whelen - 08/12/21
I'm a NR so only get to gun hunt Iowa every two years-drew last year but not for 2021. I initially planned to build a straight wall rifle in 450 BM but with extra 35s now legal, I have that covered. Your Whelen idea or a 358 would be sweet!
Posted By: matt_allen Re: WTB 35 Whelen - 08/12/21
What part of the state do u hunt lead miner
Posted By: LEADMINER Re: WTB 35 Whelen - 08/12/21
Zone 6 on the Iowa/Mo border. I live close to Dubuque but hunt in VanBuren.

Nice!

Is every Yankee still mandated by Federal law to own a .35 Whelen?
Posted By: LEADMINER Re: WTB 35 Whelen - 08/12/21
No, Natural Law! Back up to find you a Whelen, Matt cause you can't have mine. smile

My 35WAI
[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

That and my 376 Steyr are my two favorite rifles.
Posted By: RoyalKnight Re: WTB 35 Whelen - 08/14/21
Jackmountain that is a dang fine looking rifle.
Posted By: Gaschekt Re: WTB 35 Whelen - 08/15/21
After snagging a 700 classic in 35 whelen all my 30-06 rifles disappeared. It's a powerhouse for sure. A 250gr Hornady at 2500fps punches holes through anything and pounds steel harder than an 06 ever thought about. It's a marvel of cast bullet shooter. Even a hit at family reunions with light 357 swc loads for all the kids to bust pop cans
Posted By: Gaschekt Re: WTB 35 Whelen - 08/15/21
Took it to a 450 acre prairie dog town once. Firing rem coreloks it subdued the rodents with dazzling fanfare. Probably the fastest and most i ever fired the rifle in an afternoon. I was cranking shells and tossing dogs left and right and over the next hill. 300 yd shots were not a problem and I'll bet they still haven't forgotten about the only varmint shooter they ever saw show up with a 35 whelen

It's that much of a problem ?
How many shooting related accidents did Iowa have last year ?
How many were those Remington 700's that went off by themselves ?
Lord knows nobody was ever killed with a big slow projectile.
Posted By: matt_allen Re: WTB 35 Whelen - 12/26/21
You go shooting 300 win mags into open sections of frozen ground with other hunters sitting in the same section Is asking for issues
Posted By: matt_allen Re: WTB 35 Whelen - 12/26/21
There is still tons of deer drives in Iowa.

Are you a righty or left handed guy?

Right
Posted By: surefire7 Re: WTB 35 Whelen - 12/26/21
I’ve taken Elk and Moose here in Colorado with my 35 Whelens.

Love that caliber and my rifles.

I’ve only used factory ammo; Nosler Custom 250 gr. NP, and Federal Premium 225 gr. TBBC.

Hey Matt - I have a Kimber Montana in 270 win built on the 8400 action. I live in Iowa and thought it would make an awesome 35 Whelen. Let me know if you are interested!
Posted By: matt_allen Re: WTB 35 Whelen - 01/19/22
What part of state and price?
Posted By: Bugger Re: WTB 35 Whelen - 01/19/22
I have a pre-64 parts rifle, that is a pre-64 action with an after market barrel that looks like it has good rifling. The stock is quite ugly! I bought a different stock here at the fire and it’s uglier.
Shoots ok, feeds ok except 357/38 pistol bullets will not always feed.
I bought this as a 35 Brown Whelen and had the barrel set back and re-chambered.
I’m selling this for $600 shipped. I am wanting a 700 35 Whelen and this one is going to go.

I’m thinking of painting the stock to hide the ugliness.

We drive them in Lansing Iowa from sun up to sun down..I carried my 7600 35 Whelen. I had a herd run by me 15-20 of them and I can tell you having a std duplex scope was no ideal. I am switching to a Trijicon for next year.

Hey Matt - I’m in Des Moines. Would look to get $1k for the .270 Montana
Posted By: CreekChub Re: WTB 35 Whelen - 01/20/22
That’s a good deal. Isn’t a single Kimber Montana on gunbroker right now.

I'd love to be able to say these words!

Wisconsin years back had shotgun only counties.ln 2013 they legalized rifles statewide and nothing changed as far as shooting accident go.There were lots of 870 Rems with slug barrels for sale.
