That should do it. The address has to start with https which indicates secured, not http which will just display [linked image]. The address also can't have anything after the three character picture format extension (.jpg, .png or whatever). Anything at all after the extension like .jpg2 will prevent the picture from being displayed, you'll just see the raw web address surrounded by the two html tags.

I use imgur. Click the "insert image link" button and paste in my link.
