Edit: as some helpful fire users have educated me, this rifle is actually a Browning BBR, not an A-Bolt. I've found a basic stock I'll pick up for shoot ability sake, but I'm still on the hunt for a pretty piece of wood for it. Thanks yall.

So i recently purchased a lovely Browning A-Bolt 1 Medallion in 300 win mag to round out my A bolt collection. Unfortunately. during shipping USPS broke the stock clean in half. Right at the rear tang, the stock is fully sheared. I'm going to try to repair it, but I'm not hugely hopeful. The seller is being awesome, and refunded me a part of the purchase price while he pursues the insurance claim with USPS.

I know it's a long shot, but does anyone have a nice wooden stock for the long action A bolt that they would be willing to part with? Thanks!

Wow! Geez USPS! Just curious how was the rifle packaged? There is a LA stock on LRH but it’s a synthetic stock.

Since the gun went to my FFL and was unpackaged when I showed up, I can't speak to how it was packed. The gun store said the packing wasn't great, the shipper said it was, so I'm not going to make a judgement call either way.

It looks to me like the gun was leaning against a wall (still boxed) barrel up, and something large and heavy fell on the lower 1/4 of the box and impacted right where the breakage is. The gun clearly wasn't packaged to withstand that particular hit, but whether that was out of the range of what a person should expect, I don't know. Either way, here we are!

Thanks for the tip about the synthetic! I don't have an account over there, but I'll go try to find it. I've got synthetics for my other A bolts that sometimes go on during super [bleep] weather (I like the wood stocks otherwise) so picking up a synth wouldn't be a bad place to start.

You're awesome! I'm getting the synthetic so I can at least shoot the rifle while I try to fix my kablooied stock
Did you buy that syn stock?
I was going to but the bolt spacing was wrong. Either there's a different in actions between A-Bolt 1 and A-Bolt 2 (I have the 1, his stocks was from a 2) or the actions are cartridge specific. His takeoff was from a 338 win, and it's 1/2" shorter than mine

Bummer. Good luck in the search. Man I assumed a bolt 1 and a bolt 2 spacing on a Long action would be the same.

Thank you much for the tip. I do appreciate it. And I had assumed the same thing, so I'm glad I asked for measurements. He said his stock measures 7 7/8" between the action screws, and mine sits at 8 3/8". I know 338wm is a hair shorter than 300, but not that much shorter. So I assume it's a model variation. Or one of us can't run a tape measure lol
I only see 2 different stocks listed SA and LA. Might be worth calling numrich on this one

You know that's a good point... I'll see if they're open Saturdays and call them tomorrow. I appreciate that
I had a rifle I LOVED and sold delivered the same way and like you, the buyer was AWESOME to work with but it did appear they propped it up against the wall and backed a truck into it. Dirty dogs!
Quick question, I can't see a lot from your pic, but it sure looks like you might have a Browning BBR based on the inset swivels and butt pad shown. Not sure but that might be the difference in the stocks. Again I can't say for sure just guessing from what I can see in the picture but could be wrong.

No [bleep]... I think you're right. I have never heard of a BBR before. The seller called it an A-Bolt, and I thought this was an A-Bolt 1 but never having seen magnum model I just rolled with the variations from my .06 A-Bolt 2. The pic of a BBR I found online shows a bolt that looks identical to mine.... Well maybe that will make the stock hunt easier having the right model!

screw spacing is over 8"

stock
It's not pretty but it's shootable! Be worth getting while I try to repair the original

I will go look here in a bit but I believe I had a BBR magnum wood stock.
That would be stellar!
160user came through for me! Thanks all for the help in identifying the rifle, then digging up a replacement for me. Much appreciated.
