Just wondering what the value of a Remington 725 in a 244 caliber would be. The bluing is about 98%, the stock has been refinished, checkering is in good condition, the trigger guard has some finish wear. This is one of the rare calibers in that model.

6mm...slow twist though... Good luck with your sale!
The 80 gr Barnes shoots fine in a 244 and will kill anything you would take on with a 244.

244 lie paid for by Olin.

$1000 rifle.

Whatever someone is willing to pay. Some only look at the “book” value, or what they hope to get when they’re over it. Others may be willing to pay a premium for their notion of perfection, or to complete a collection etc. I’ve paid a bit too much at times and then found something wasn't all I expected and ended up selling it off even or at a small loss, but this is a hobby after all, and not a business.

Those are pretty nice, my favorite in the 7- series of Remingtons, but I wouldn’t pay a lot for one. As a using piece, $600-$900 at most, less if not really nice. A collector might pay more, but refinished, probably not. You may have trouble finding comps on the rare 725.
Not all Remington 725s in 244 REM have 1-12" ROT barrels. When Remington started to chamber the 725 in 243 WIN they used a 1-10" ROT and carried that over to the few 244 REMs that they made. My 725 in 244 REM has a 1-10" ROT. I also have 2 loose 725 244 REM barrels, one has a 1-10" ROT and the other a 1-12" ROT.

Remington 725s are nice rifles and not many were made. Any serious 244 REM buyer will want to know what the ROT is, as a 1-10" is considered more desirable. Good luck with your sale!
The 1 in 12 BS just will not go away.

Go back and read Elmer's comments on the Olin parties where gun writers were wined, dined and provided feminine company. Then note how the 244 was slandered by all of them

If you plan to use a 244 for medium game, can we agree it should be within 300 yards ?.

In that case all my 244s will shoot 1.5" groups at 100 yards with "deer ammo".

That will kill just fine.

The 80 gr Barnes will shoot 1" an is a proven killer.

Nothing you shoot will ever know the difference.

My family has a remington model 722 that has been in the family for over 50 years and it will shoot a ragged one hole group with 100 grain bullets all day long. That 1:12 twist propaganda was bought and paid for by Olin.

I really like 725’s!
Since I have a couple of 6mm’s and a 244, I’d probably use this rifle as a varmint rifle. But there’s fine bullets that would be lethal on deer and would be fine in a slow twist.

Up
85 grain Sierra Spitzer is a hammer in my 6mm and would shoot just fine in the 12 twist if it is indeed a 12 twist gun.
