............45 Colt 270 grain Hard Cast Keith Semi Wadcutter at 900 FPS from a 4 & 5/8ths " BBL..............

This is a wide meplat, hardcast SWC perfect for hunting typical North American game.

Velocity is 900 FPS from a 4 & 5/8ths" barrel.

A customer advised that the ammo was running at approximately 950 FPS from their 7.5" Bisley.

Quote from an article written by John Linebaugh

"I have seen my wife shoot two or three mule deer and about eight antelope now with a .45 Colt. The load she has used almost exclusively for seven years now is a 260 Keith slug at 900 fps out of a 4 3/4" Seville revolver. This will consistently shoot length ways and exit on mule deer and antelope at 100 yards.

It kills in my estimation better than a .270 or .30-06 class rifle as it acts a lot like an arrow and doesn't excite the animal. No whistles or bells, just honest consistent performance.

I have used this load on two antelope with exacting results. In my early hunting years I used the same 260 gr Keith at 1,400 fps. out of a dozen antelope and one mule deer I have personally taken I can't see that it stops them one bit better than the 900 fps load. Why, well history will tell us, as Elmer said. Once you shoot completely through your intended target you've done all you can do."

Hard to argue with that.

ATTENTION FREEDOM ARMS MODEL 97 SHOOTERS.

Freedom Arms cylinders do not allow .45 Colt ammo over 1.6" overall length. This .45 Colt ammo was specifically loaded to accommodate those who own such guns, and has a max COAL of 1.595.

This .45 Colt load is quite accurate and John Linebaugh found a Goldilocks load with this one. Though he is not the first, he is certainly a pioneer in the handgun hunting field and deserves credit where credit is due. This is a great all around hunting load. Easy on guns, and the shooter alike.

Here is a pic of the projectile showing the width of the meplat. Truly an outstanding design for hunting.

According to JWP475 who shot this into 20% ballistic gel (10% being the standard):

This load penetrates 51" in 20% ballistics gell. 10% is normally used for handguns. This is about equal to 85" in 10% gel. This is a very shootable load"

That is roughly 7 feet (84") in penetration.

Great looking bullet. I'm loading the lee 252 swc and it has a nice wide meplat too. I'd like to find a good 44 mold in that weight range with at least a .340" meplat.

Bb
Yep,

I really think this is the ideal all around bullet for the .45 Colt. Plus at this velocity range it is drives it hard enough to punch clean through animals but is not punishing in terms of recoil for the shooter.

Definitely my favorite .45 Colt load.

I’ll take 100. PM to follow.

Finished a tracking job yesterday on a mature whitetail with my Model 94 and your 45 Colt loads. High winds helped me close the distance on the bedded buck. Two shots in the chest through and through at about 30 yards. Buck never got up.
Congrats on the big buck HS!

Love hearing about the ammo being put to good use. smile

Very cool.

I will get the ammo headed your way my Friend!
