Relist: Merkel K1 .308Win - 03/11/24
Up again is my Merkel K1 in .308 Winchester. I had it listed before but pulled the ad because of a misfire issue that has re-surfaced that I thought was fixed. It does not misfire all the time and accuracy is really good when it does fire. Certain brands of ammo have proven more reliable than others with the most reliable being Winchester Deer Season 150s. Actually. I didn't experience a misfire with this ammo at all. Handloads have been spotty.
The rifle came to me with this issue. I sent the gun off to be examined by a smith in Florida that was recommended to me by the guys at save the fine guns. He took the gun apart, gave it a thorough cleaning and sent it back to me. Gun seemed fine at first but then the misfires started again. Since then I have discovered that the rifle will close on a no-go gauge and I believe it to be a headspace problem. I spoke with 3 smiths, one local, one in Montana and one in Oklahoma. All three agree that the best thing to do is have the rifle rechambered to something else. Most suggested was a 3006 with a tight match chamber. Which is exactly what I plan to do if I keep it. Biggest issue for me is that I have zero interest in a 30-06. So I'm re-listing the rifle heavily discounted in hopes that someone might be willing to take a chance on it. I have lost interest and have too many other irons in the fire at the moment. Im offering the rifle, along with original box, scope rings, and sling for $1,375.00 shipped to your FFL. My cell is 606-939-2906 if you wish to call and discuss it further. Text and Pm are fine as well.
Pics on the way.
Thanks, Gary
