I just recieved in a trade a long skinny Unertl scope. It is marked "J Unertl Optic co." and caries serial number 302XX. It has a set of aluminum looking rings with a coiled steel spring on one of them and adjustments on the other (rear) ring. It looks as though this ring set fits onto some type of dovetail block mount set up. Paralax is adjustable, regular crosshairs, and there is a number 12 on the ocular ring which I assume to mean this is a 12 power scope. Optics and clarity are quite good.

I am wondering what this scope might be worth and if there is someone here who might need it more than I do. I am thinking I might put it on a old SAKO heavy barrel bench rest gun in .222 but I will see what folks here have to say about this before making a decision. I also want to make sure I was fair to the guy who I traded out of this.

Thanks for your input and help!

How large is the objective? Unertl made scopes with 1 1/2", 2" and a smaller one that is maybe 1 1/8".
They command big bucks today, all of the target models.
Mark,

Here's a link to a site where a guy has a lot of older Unertl's for sale. You can price check there.

It's worth quite a bit, depending on model and age, sounds like external adjustments. They fit onto target scope blocks.
Thanks guys!

I will go home and look at this scope more closely and measure the objective lens. Anyone here want to buy this from me before I call the guy in the website listed above? It looks as though $450.00 would be a fair, kinda low good deal for someone price, open to suggestions / offers. Can e-mail a pic r two if neccesary. MARK

Wish I could remember this guy's name but he repairs scopes.....not just the run of the mill stuff. I sent him a Winchester scope to put in new cross hairs and it cost me about $150. He wanted to know if I was interested in selling it for 450 bucks.

That being said, he would be the man to talk with. The old scopes are really only collector items, IMO.

I know this guy advertises in some of the magazines.
THANKS!

I will check out the ad pages in rifle magazine and others as well as call the guy who has the website above but will give first shot to my fellow 24hr campfire friends at $450.00 shipped.

Mark,

Here's a pix of my Unertl on a Martini Mk II, 22 Rimfire rifle.
It is a 1 1/2" target scope for comparison purposes.
