For Sale: Is my semi-custom Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in 7x57 Mauser. The rifle is in nearly perfect condition. This is a push feed model 70. It functions as it should and goes bang when you pull the trigger as expected. It feeds and ejects with no issues.

This rifle began life as Model 70 Lightweight with a Walnut stock, chambered in 270 Winchester and quickly became a project for me after I purchased it. That was actually the reason I bought it.

The rifle has been re-barreled by local gunsmith Rick Hiland, using a Douglas Featherweight contour barrel chambered in 7x57 Mauser. When the re-barrel was complete it was sent off to Spradlins in Colorado to be "tef-coated". (Spradlins is now known as altitude gun works) and they still offer Tef-Coating the last time I checked their web site.

While the action was being re-barreled, I purchased a grade II/III Winchester 70 Featherweight stock from CDNN (left over from the New Haven plant when they shut their doors). I also ordered PT&G Aluminum 1-piece bottom metal.

When the barreled action was in hand, the gun was brought to Larry Racine (LPR Gunsmithing in Swanzey NH) to be professionally glass bedded. Larry did his usual fantastic job and the barrel is now floated from about an inch forward of the taper and the gun is back together.

The gun currently wears Talley 1-piece lightweight lows and a Bushnell 3-9x40 4200 Elite. All metal, gun, rings, bottom metal, scope is matte black finish and the scope is your standard duplex variety.

This gun shoots Federal factory 175gr Round nose bullets consistently sub-moa when I do my part. I've not found any magic hand loads for it to date. It's not bad with Speer 160gr Hot Cor bullets but it doesn't seem to like anything lighter than those 160s.

I don't know exactly how much it weighs with or without the scope. But since a standard featherweight is about 7.25 lbs, I would make an educated guess, it's a little lighter than that w/o the scope.

I also don't know exactly how many rounds are down the new barrel. Maybe a couple hundred. It has never been in the woods, has no scratches that I can see in either the wood or metal (except a small nick in the finish where the safety lever hits the bolt shroud when the safety is flicked off). I'd rate this a solid 95+% gun, conservatively. But that is just my opinion. Now that I've told the story, I'll set a price and let the pictures do the rest of the talking.

Bare Rifle: $1300 shipped to your FFL.
Rifle Rings/Scope: $1550 shipped to your FFL.

I will offer the rifle with a 3-day inspection. If you're not happy, ship it back insured, in the same condition it left here in and upon safe arrival back in my hands, I'll refund your money. No questions asked.

Thanks for looking. I've covered about everything I can think of with this rifle but feel free to PM with any questions.

Only trade I am interested in at this time is your cash for my rifle. Might consider reasonable cash offers. And if you are close enough for a Face to Face transaction, maybe we can work something out. Thanks for looking.

What is the rate of twist?

How long is the throat, being your shooting 175gr., would 140gr. have a lot of free bore ?
Twist is 1 in 9

Don't believe it is throated particularly long. Don't know exactly though.
