For trade is an original Sharps Borchardt Model 1878 45 caliber rifle with a 30 inch barrel. I believe from my research it is a 45-70. From what I have been able to tell so far is this is one of the earlier rifles. Made circa 1878 - 1881, this is one of approximately 62 Hunters Rifles produced by Sharps and are somewhat rare and hard to find. Thought this was a ouble set triger system but it is the standard safety system and it is fully functional. The barrel blueing is very good, the barrel rifling is very good, the reciever area is good with wear but no pitting or rust, front and rear sights are intact however the folding ladder part is missing on the rear sight, forearm is in good shape, the stock has a chip out of it on the right side behind the top of the reciever and the butt plate is intact. The reason I say earlier model is because from what i have read this one on the left side of the reciever above the sharps info is not marked with the Bourhardt line. This has three lines. Sharps info line, serial number line, and pat. date line. The word Old Reliable is in script and not enclosed with a box or rectangle. Please pm me for more info or trade offers. Send me an email address and I will send you the pictures. I cant seem to resize the ones I have.

Additional info: Speaking to two individual authorities on Sharps Borchardt Rifles today I was able to find some additional info. Although they only made 62 to 70 hunter models most of them were made in 40 cal. with 26 inch barrels there were only small number made in 45 cal. with 30 inch barrels which were special ordered. Also reproduction rear sight elevators are available and I have the info.

What do you want to trade it for?
How about my wife's cat??.. Will that work??.. If need be, will even throw in a bag of litter to sweaten the deal.

MM
And I will throw in my wife...all deals final.
PM sent...

Very cool!
But price
Back to the top. All inquiries answered and trade options have been considered. It might be easier to just put a price on it and not worry about trades at this point. I will consider a cash price of $2500.00 but will also still consider trades as well. Thanks
All messages replied. If I missed someone let me know. Thanks.
After some further discussions with people familiar with this rifle this might have been misidentified. I was recently told that this is most likely a Sporting Model due to the fact of the cartridge designation and the heavier weight barrel. Still a great rifle. I tried to actually get a documented letter pertaining to this gun but the serial number research showed no records were available. From my understanding about 1 out of every 3 can be documented due to incomplete records. I would like to have updated this info in the original post but I am unable to do this at this point. I also had this gun inspected by someone who knows older rifles quite well. He felt the metal on this gun and barrel bore was in extremely good condition and as noted in the post the wood chip in the stock needs to be repaired. I have responded to all inquiries. I would like to see this go to a good home and if there are members that have any ideas as to what other venues I should use please pm me with the info. One of the larger auction companies have given me their auction value estimate and my asking price is way below their auction estimate. I would rather sell this to a private individual rather than sending it through the auction system. Thanks eveyone. One question, is it permissable to repost an item on this site and have the other one deleted?
