Currently 300A corn, 60A CRP and 120A timber/pond/bottoms. Creek bottom and rolling hills. Lots of funnels and deep bottoms that hold big deer. Easy access - just off of pavement (no gravel required)! Approximately 70 miles South of Des Moines.

Enough land/locations for 6+ hunters.

How many deer tags come with property or do u have to draw?
Any other guys want to join me, I may be interested.

Tags have to be drawn in Iowa.

I'm interested. Can you send me some aerials or harvested animals? What about turkeys?

Joe, I'd be willing to listen on partnering up as well.

Thanks

If it's close to Lee & Tiffany,i'm in !
Are u the actual landowner?

I would like to know more about the options for a non-resident on this opportunity...

I have the bonus points to draw the deer tag, and the time off to utilize the other potential hunting.

Share some info Sean, I know you know what's up!
I still have access to private ground here in SE Iowa (about 15 minutes from lee and Tiffany actually), but I am not guaranteed that year to year.

I would be interested in aerial photos, amenities, etc. landowners that border the property, any issues there? Any trespassing issues?

Ebby, I'm interested, depending on some of the previous questions. I would also have to figure put driving distance, finances, time away, etc.

No, Lee and Tiffany do not live in Zone 5.

The Kisky's do, however. Zone 5 is all together a fabulous zone to hunt.

I would also love some more info, such as aerials and past harvest information.

This sounds like a great deal for a few guys going in together if the OP is the owner and this is not a sub-lease.
Posted By: Dingmo Re: Iowa Hunting Land for Lease - 01/15/13
It is not a sublease, this will be the only hunting lease available for this property.

Two 140 class deer and one 170 class were harvested this year.

An aerial picture can be viewed on the Craigslist ad: http://desmoines.craigslist.org/spo/3491663002.html

It also has tons of turkey running around.

I, too, would like to see some more information on this property. PM sent. Thanks.

I would be interested in teaming up with some others and grab onto this. I am a nonresident but have other land in Ohio to hunt
Hey guys.... this is NOT my post, but since a couple of u have asked, i will reply. (i am Sean)

Yes, i got another nice one (179), seems like i either go 170s or 200, someday i will find one in the 180/190s.

AS for knowing whats up...nope. I just know the area is a good area in general. I live and hunt in zone 3 and so i am unfamiliar other then just in general. I dont know the ground or the OP here so i have no dog in this fight. I have passed it on to a couple folks i think will be interested.

As for nonresidents....bow hunting is about a every other yr or so game. Shotgun/muzzleloader hunters seem to have better odds at drawing, but nothing is guranteed. With the EHD that took out 40-45,000 deer in our state this yr i am gonna to be intersted in what regualtions the state does to make changes. The herd was decreasing some the last yr or two, but this was a MAJOR hit for the western part of the state as my area had about a 65% reduction due to EHD....very sad. Found dozens and dozens of dead bucks/deer. As many of u prob know, it was the death of what will be the #2 all time iowa buck that was found by macedonia, iowa. Scored 281 gross 273 net.

Anyways...im off subject some but yes, i think this area in general is a good area but again i can NOT speak to anything in detail. I am just a Iowa resident trophy hunter and i dont go outside my area to hunt much as i have been doing pretty well here for the last 20 yrs. For those in Iowa without much ground to hunt....well, this would be great. Just not sure one would want to take 4-6 trohpys off a 480 acre yr after yr or it would be dry quick....IMO.

Good luck to the person/people who obtain this. Will be interesteing.
Good luck and good hunting.
I hadn't heard actual numbers as to our deer loss this year but from what I have seen on the farm here I was guessing about 50%. That 65% number is from the DNR? I do hope the eastern half of the state was not hit as hard as we were here.
There is definitely a lower population over here on the eastern part. I don't have numbers to back it up, or do I have first hand knowledge on seeing dead bucks/deer laying around, but from hunting this area for the past 10 years, I can say this is the lowest number of deer I have seen.

I would say the EHD would be a contributor here, but I also think, (again, pure speculation), but I think the late season antler less rifle season has had an effect also.

joe
Joe...AGREE!!! At least the friggin state reduced the season from 16 to 9 days this yr. They need to NOT HAVE IT THIS YEAR!!!! but of course they want their money...too bad its not the actual animals the DNR/state is worried about. Heck, im not sure there were 1300 'excess' does in our county but thats the number the put on this county for the rifle anterless season (of which many shed buck get whacked).
It was about 5 years ago when the numbers were quite high, and I was an advocate for people eating lean, quality venison. I was successful turning people towards venison, evening butchering it, and giving it away. The people liked it so much that they request some each year. Now that numbers are low, I have to tell people that I don't want to wipe out my population at my hunting spots!

Some guys I know around here don't allow killing does anymore, only bucks. I never thought I would see the day where people would not want to take does.

I took a 140 class this year, and have a late season doe tag for the freezer (to go along with the buck of course..), but that will be it for me this year.

Congrats on your 160-180's!

If you can't get dear and turkey in Wayne county it's because you are the one that's dead. It won't be the games falut. kwg

This lease is still available; first guy backed out after we had a deal struck.

bump
It's been steadily declining where we hunt in Z3 the last few years. We saw fewer deer last year than we ever have. I didn't even go this season , but Dad did and said it was even worse than last year with the EHD outbreak due to the flood last year. They found dead deer all over. Sad deal.

Always wanted to hunt the Eastern side of the state, just haven't gotten around to it. Wouldnt mind hunting z4 either, there are some toads coming from there.

Posted By: Dingmo Re: Iowa Hunting Land for Lease - 01/26/13
I've tromped around 800A+ in Wayne County and only found one doe that probably died of EHD. Our herd is healthy.
That's great. If it wasn't for the NR draw dilemma, I could lease this with some buds no problem.

Good luck with the lease.

I hunt with a guy here in New Jersey that owns land in Southeast Iowa, he draws a NR bow tag about every three years and a gun tag about every two years. He has friends that put in and draw differnent years so someone is always hunting the property, especially during gun seasons. They shoot some huge deer on his property, I hope this helps.
