Hey Mark Claireborne ,where are you on this ammo ?
Waiting for a PM from you with a price or what kinds of thngs you might want in barter. PM incoming...
Do any of the oddball/specialty ammo companies make loads for this rimfire stuff any more?
Not that I have been able to find.
Old Western Scrounger used to have some and there was a company in Brazil that made it once in a while. Looks like it is totally out of production now.

Both 25 and 32 RF ammo has been out of production for years.
I buy it when I can find it at $1-2/round. At that cost I can expect to achieve 50% fail to fire. Not your best plinking caliber.
Note: There are some wonderful firearms chambered for them. Too bad some producer hasn't stepped up.
22rf,
Yep, I have one that belonged to a grandfather. Not in the best shape, the bore is pitted because I think the early ammo was loaded with black powder, but otherwise tight. I used to get ammo for it at the local hardware store and it shot OK. Ammo wasn't real cheap for it even back in those days.

When I was a kid back in the Bitterroot, I killed a zillion gophers and one deer with a little Remington Rolling Block in .32 Rimfire. The ammo was difficult, but not imposssible, to find even then ... in the early 50s.

By the way, the .32 Long Rimfire (yes, there was a short) was loaded with "semi-smokeless" powder and it made a quite satisfying blue-gray cloud every time I whacked a gopher or a skunk. I was always careful to clean my barrel after firing ... to this day, I am still not sure if "semi-smokless" powder would rust a barrel. Better not to take chances.

Sometimes, me and Grandpa Hank had to drive all the way to Hamilton to replentish my .32 ammo supply. It was about $1.00 a box while Winchester Super-X .22s were about forty-five cents a box. And shells for Grandpa's .22 Special were about seventy-five cents a box, as I recall.

I believe that today's hunters would LOVE a rebirth of the .25 Stevens Rimfire and the .32 Rimfire. Can you imagine hunting gophers and prairie dogs with a cool little Favorite or Rolling Block so chambered???

Or what about a J-frame Smith & Wesson revolver in either .25 or .32? Very COOL.

Good luck with your ammo sale.

Blessings,

Steve

Of course they aren't listed any more, but the ammo companies back in the day had the ballistics for .25 and .32 rimfire published along with the .22 ballistics.
I was surprised to find out that the .32 wasn't much more powerful than a .22. The velocity wasn't great, and the only thing going for it was a bit more energy due to the heavier bullet.

Wonderful memories and well-written dogzapper. Grandpa Hank sounds like a great guy. He's smiling!
