Gentlemen,
I'm looking for a 6.5x55 barrel for my 98 Mauser. New, used; Douglass, Shilen.....etc.
I don't really need a $400 barrel, just something to get my baby shooting.

I have a couple of used 6.5's but are you sure of the 98? Small ring or large? Mel Chung may have a couple more .... Mine is a swede small ring, [email protected]
Can you use a blank?

It's a KAR 98, small ring action cut for large ring threads.
A blank will work of it's a #1, or 2 contour.
Trying to keep it mountain rifle weight.

How about a .260?

.260 will work......
I have a Shilen CM #2 lightweight sporter in 6.5/264 with 9-twist (will finish up to 24.5") that has been threaded but not chambered for a 98 - this was not a factory pre-threaded barrel but a match-grade Shilen blank that I started and never completed for my youngest daughter who decided that she doesn't want to shoot or hunt - like you, it was fitted for my small ring 98 - an unfinished 26" Shilen #2 blank weighs 3-lbs 3oz - this barrel partially finished at 25" (you'll need to remove an inch off the muzzle when you crown) weighs 2-lbs 14oz, if you go with 24" finished you'll end up with about 2-12 for a finished weight, even lighter with a shorter length - it is about .560 at the muzzle - you can go to Shilen's contour chart for the exacts. I have another guy considering but if he passes, I let you know.
