mainly because the whelenman likely has had one and he his legendary in this neck of the woods !!

I got a 7600 that shoots 250gr partitions into nice little cloverleafs. Not sure they make a 760 whelen. I think they would have been a rebarrel job but don't quote me on that. Just seen a 7600 Whelen at a gun show last weekend.

Got a beautiful steel-receiver BAR in .35 Whelen with a Leupold 2.5-8x on it. Why struggle with a pump when you can just pull the trigger?
