A good friend is looking for a new hunting rifle. He has been hunting with his elderly father's pre-64 30-06 and wants a 2nd hunting rifle. He will be hunting deer and mostly elk and does not reload. He likes nice stuff, looking for something $2000-$3500. Wood or synthetic is fine. Not looking for a LR rig, standard sporter barrel please. Since he doesn't reload and will be hunting elk, something like a 270, 308, 280, 30-06??? Probably nothing with more recoil than a 30-06.

Thanks.

If that is his budget, I would go get another nice Winchester pre-64 Model 70.

If that brand and model works, why fix it? smile

That is a heck of a budget.

A nice BAR comes to mind... with a Kahles 2.5-10 on top.

I sold this one NIB/unfired a while back at $1500

See if your buddy is interested in something like this.

Remington 700 action that was new from an unfired Remington Classic in 30-06.

Douglas air gauged stainless barrel with 5R rifling. The contour is the same as what comes on the Remington Classic rifles with a 1 - 10 twist and a length of 22 inches.

Manners Super Light Hunter stock in tan.

Remington factory trigger that did not need replacing with aftermarket trigger.
I have a nice Weatherby MK 5 in 7 mm WBY with approx 5 boxes of WBY ammo. The whole rifle has been redone. Reblued and stock refinished. It is a good shooter though. PM me if interested. Thanks
