Every year we buy a certain amount of Land Owner Authorizations in GMU 2 in NW New Mexico for our clients that do not draw. Well, we had a great draw this year and we have 8 landowner authorizations to sell that are good for either muzzy or rifle on Oct 7-11 Muzzy or Oct 14-18 rifle. These authorizations are Unit Wide meaning that you can hunt on any public lands that you have legal access to or any private land that is signed up unit wide, of which there are 9 ranches with a total of 17,123 deeded acres to hunt in addition to the public. There is a huge amount of public land to hunt.

Unit 2 is coming on strong in NM with bigger and better bulls being harvested every year. This population is in good shape. Very few cows are harvested in this unit meaning the unit is expanding in terms of population. A majority of this unit is pinon juniper rimrock at elevations around 6500 to 7500 feet. A typical 4 year old bull will be a 280-300 inch 6x6 bull. Our guides have had clients take bulls at the 320+ level. We keep hearing of bigger bulls being seen in this unit.

The cost of a landowner tag is $3,000 + tax and license for a total of $3,840. THIS IS NOT A GUIDED HUNT. However, if you want a guide we can add a guide for $450/day based on availability.

There a lots of places to camp. There are a couple of places to stay in motels. One is near some of the best trout fishing in the SW on the San Juan.

Just a quick note.

I have made a request to the NM Dept of Game and Fish to acquire copies of all of the Unit Wide Ranch maps so I can include the maps a with sale of a tag.

Don't forget the the rest of the units BLM, State, and USFS lands are available to hunt with a tag as well.

For clarification-

There are two hunt timeframes to choose from. You can only hunt one of them
1) Muzzy 10/7-11
2) Rifle 10/14-18

Lessor weapons types can be used on each hunt type.

Ex: On the Muzzy you can use bow, muzzy, (I have my buddy carry an extra muzzy for a qucik second shot if needed)
Ex: On the Rifle you can use bow,muzzy, or rifle

Further points of clarification.

You are able to hunt all public lands with legal access (lots of public) and all ranches that are signed up as "unit wide". I have made a request to the department for copies of maps of those ranches. This is in the works. Last year there were over 17,000 deeded acres signed up in these ranches.

These tags will be good for public lands and UW ranches in all of 2a, 2b, and 2c.
