All:

Only a few scopes were this size back in the day, but if you have a set laying around gathering dust, please contact me. The older scopes most commonly encountered that are 26mm are the Lyman Challenger or Lyman Wolverine. If you have one of these with rings on them, those rings will be 26mm. I could use them.

Thank you,
Jeff

RAS,I went that route trying to mount a NIckelMarburg on a Sako.I even tried SAKO 26mm rings and they felt too tight as well.I didn't want to damage the tube so I sold them off.I ended up with Burris Signature rings.I opened them(inserts) up a little with a dremel and they worked fine.A little bit of a PIA doing a little at a time but got a good fit.

RAS, I don't know if this what you are looking for, but I found metal spacers on Numrich to mount a 1" scope in Mauser 26mm. claw mounts. They were just what I needed.
Let me know if this is what you are looking for.
At least I think it was Numrich.😁

Still looking for you
Have a set of Buehler lows that work as 1", 26mm or 27.5 mm depending on shims.

50 bucks TYD.
