I decided to sell the 270 Barrett FC since I recently picked up a Lipsey's special run FC in 6.5 CM.

Barrel is cut/re-crowned to 23" (just felt right-er at that length and I prefer a step crown). 1-10" twist, no.2 contour. Has 12 rounds through it, and I only shot one group with it (see below). Comes with box. Everything is LNIB except for a minor scratch in the stock (see photos).

Rings and scope not included.

$1250 to your ffl.

Paypal Friends/Family or USPS MO.

First "I'll take it" gets it.

PM me for details.

Quick bump.

Look forward to reading about the 6.5.

Will do... I’ve got too many lightweights, two Montana’s and two Fieldcraft’s... something has to go!

Brad,

So you are dropping the proven and reliable 270 Win for the upstart 6.5 creedmoor... You're joking right?

Free Bump

Brad, did you shoot any critters with that rifle? Did you try any factory loads?

You do have another 270?

I have a Nula in 30-06 and a couple of KImber Hunters,a 6.5 Creedmoor,and a 280 Ackley,but I was thinking about a Fieldcraft in 270.
Just “pull the trigger”

No critters shot, never tried any factory loads. I literally loaded 25 rounds of the load in the photo, took it out to my range, sighted-in at 25 yards, 100, 325 and 225 yards (B&C Reticle), then shot one group at 100 yards (the one shown). 12 total rounds shot, then I took it hunting. I passed on two different 5pt bulls and finished out my season with no more shots than the original twelve at sight in.

IME Accubonds typically don't shoot very well, so a sub 3/4" group is noteworthy. I have no doubt this sucker will shoot, but my cheap Norwegian nature just can't justify having 4 lightweight rifles.

I'm torn selling this one... I've come to really admire the Fieldcraft with a no.2 contour. The buggy whip barrels on the regular Fieldcrafts hold no interest for me.

No I don't have another 270, but have a SS M70 action on hand I'm going to build one on.

My NULA in 30-06 was ordered with a no.2 contour. Is this rifle part of a special run? I would rather have a #2 than a # 1 myself.

Ok reread the original post. The 270 has a no.1 barrel and the new 6.5 Creedmoor has the no. 2,if I understand correctly.

All of the long action Fieldcraft's have 24" #2 contours (unless cut/crowned like Brad's). Brad's is a factory #2 cut to 23".

21" and 18" short actions have a #1'ish contour.

A few special runs of the short actions have #2 contours.

Doc, yes this 270 has a no.2 contour (see mic pic - .625" at 23").

As JCMCUBIC said, all LA Fieldcraft's have no.2 contours. The SA's have no.1 contours, except the Lipsey's special run 6.5CM which I just bought. It has a no.2 contour.

Shown with mounts, 3.5-10x40 scope, sling, and 4 rounds the 270 weigh's 6lbs 13oz's "all-up", but it really settles down because there's weight out front in the barrel. The ultimate compromise, and it's not hard to see why Melvin's rifle's are so popular. Again however, I'd not want this rifle with a no.1 contour.

The run of cerakoted 6.5s threaded at 22” are also a #2, as JC stated. They are different than the Lipsey’s.
Up for a nice one priced right, from a great seller.

Bump for a reliable guy. You know you need it..........................

AK, you're right of course. I believe these two 6.5 CM variations are the only current no.2 SA FC's.

Joe, thanks man.

Tempting!

Memory is a funny thing... I had the .690" group above on my phone so used it on this thread. It was the last 100 yard group after working out the dots and reflected the final 100 yard zero. However, I went through my loading notes, and low and behold I'd shot two groups at 100 yards. Here's the first:
