What dates are we talking about with the 5 and 6 digit numbers?
Well, Maybe somebody knows how to date these babies.

93 is stamped in the 5 digit floor plate and 97 in the 6 digit.
Would you be willing to swap the wood from one to the other??
Beautiful rifles!

Date by Serial numbers can be found on the Winchester site (serial number here would be from the action):

That list only goes to 1992 for M70's and doesn't cover the Classic Stainless.

The date stamp on the Bottom Metal is not a good guide, but it gets close. Best is to call BACO, they'll give the month and year of mfg.
Is that a 24" barrel on the bottom rifle?

All non-magnum SS Fwt's/All Terrain are 22" SA and LA, 22-250 through 30-06. The magnum "Featherweights"/All Terrain have 24" bbls. IIRC, the Magnum Fwt/All Terrain were only in 7Rem and 300Win mags.

Yep. And BOSS were a little longer.

If I was in the market for one of these, I'd prolly not be sweating serial numbers. whistle

Gorgeous rifles and a good guy bump.
Beautiful.
Bump.

Nice rifles! Is the five digit a compact? It looks about an inch shorter on both ends.

RM
Rifles are exactly the same. Factory 13.5” LOP and 22” barrels. just a weird camera angle.
P.M. sent

Pretty sure BOSS rifles were the same OAL, ~2" less rifled portion of the bbl. A non-magnum Fwt BOSS bbl would measure 22" from gas-hole to the end of the boss and ~20" to end end of the rifled portion of the bbl if you took the BOSS off it's threads. Mag Fwt would be 24/22.

Mostly just semantics to get a bump for these beautiful rifles.

Well, you made me get off my ass and go measure a few ...
I get exactly 0.25” longer on all the boss models ... or nicking pits for kicks! eek
Up for a great guy and some amazing (non boss!) rifles.
Thanks for the compliments gentlemen and bump for a helluva good looking awesome guy...
Any idea how either shoot? I’ve considered doing a project with one of these in a lightweight stock if someone wanted the wood.

That’s an excellent reference that Winchester70 put together.

Up for two that I am surprised are still here.
Alrighty then...

Thank goodness. I bought the 5-digit 7MM Mag he had and I would have really liked the 5-digit .270 Win to go with it. Thanks for removing the temptation and congrats on an excellent rifle. FWIW, I already have a 5-digit 7MM Mag, and from what has been determined on the Winchester section of the 24 hour campfire, the early ones are either uncatalogued or a special run through Davidson's, as that is where my dad ordered mine from in 1995. It's been my big game rifle since I got it, and I absolutely love it!!!
I've been seriously trying to justify buying the 5 digit. Now that it's spoken for I'm sure I will be kicking myself later.. BeardHunter got a very nice rifle.
He did.
Absolutely no flies on the 6 digit either!
Liked the wood on the 6 digit better but I can justify purchasing the 5 digit and not feeling as bad about it. At least that’s what I keep telling myself. You just don’t see many of the 270 classics in stainless which I have to say surprises me.
6 digit guns can bring home the bacon too boys!

Question: guessing the one gun doesn’t have the original stock, due to the blued swivel studs?
One of you need to buy that rifle ‘cause I need it like a hole in the head. Besides, Ingwe would skin me alive.

Agreed! If the wood on the 6 digit was on the 5 digit I would of bought it before you got the chance! HaHa

Lots of ss came with blued studs.

Stocks are original and as AK^^ said, I think they just grabbed whatever was on the shelf.
Great snag. Can't believe the other is still available. Six digits is no reason to pass.
Nice!
It doesn't get much better than a Stainless Classic Featherweight in .270 Win., at least in this price range.

reasonably-good guy bump. laugh
bump for a nice rifle.
Sunday bumper...
Friday morning ^^
I had two of these NIB that I had to sell. Not because I wanted to but because the buyer had to have them. I sold mine for well north of these here. These are gorgeous rifles.
