An Iowa City area man who was wanted on two separate felonies from 2017 and 2018 was arrested Sunday night.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s office opened an investigation in November 2017 into fraudulent activity involving 63-year-old Clyde Voorhees, then of Video Court in Iowa City. Voorhees was allegedly involved in fraudulent online activity involving the sale of firearms beginning in May of that year.
According to the investigation, Voorhees would take the victims’ money for the purchase of firearms or rifle scopes from an online seller. They would send him payments by check or money order, but the victims never received the item or items he agreed to purchase for them. Voorhees would reportedly take the money, deposit the funds into his own bank, and wire funds to Nigeria or Cameroon to launder them.
Under Miranda, Voorhees admitted to the allegations. Financial records corroborated the statements, and it’s alleged that at least seven victims were fleeced of a total of nearly $7000.
Then in March of 2018, a cybertip from Facebook was reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, saying that a pornographic image of a child had been uploaded to Facebook. A search of the IP address led investigators to Voorhees’ residence. A search warrant was executed with Voorhees present, and under Miranda ,he allegedly admitted to uploading the child pornography. He also admitted to possessing additional videos and images of the same nature on his cellphone.
An arrest warrant was requested in both cases, and Voorhees was booked into the Johnson County Jail at 11:22pm Saturday. He’s charged with Sexual Exploitation of Children, a Class D felony, and Money Laundering, a Class C felony. If convicted on both charges, he could be sentenced to up to fifteen years in prison."

Additional Information (4-20-2020 afternoon): Voorhees is indeed in the Johnson County Jail...for the moment. I spoke with jail staff there (did the cop-speak thing) and he'll probably be released soon due to the current Covid-19 protocols. While that is disappointing we must remember that he's not in jail accused of major crimes. (NOTE: While he might not appear in court down the road, this dipshit doesn't have the means to run/hide very far and once apprehended it will result in more sentence guidelines, i.e. prison time).

I also spoke with the Prosecutor's Office there. The Prosecutor assigned to the case is Janet Lyness. Her email address is: [email protected]

IF you have some pertainent information on this guy, (like being ripped off) send her an email with your contact information and what info you have. Remember that due to disclosure rules anything you send will probably be shared with his defense attorney. You can also send an email encouraging her to pursue the case but I suggest you keep it clean. It too, might be shared with the Defense.

You can also send 'ol Clyde a letter! It's probable that it will be RTS back to you but you'll only be out a stamp (they don't forward the mail). Make sure to have complete name/address informaton in the return address as they won't give him mail without it. Do so soon to better the odds of him still being there in a couple days.

Excellent. Finally caught one those POS. I learned the hard way and got scammed by a POS in Little Rock, Arkansas.

No doubt.Now that it’s known where he resides,someone needs to pay him a visit,and make an attempt to beat all the criminal actions out of his head.It’s a long shot,that one would be successful in the attempt,but,if done correctly,he would surely think about such whenever the temptation presented itself again...

They take this kiddie porn stuff quite seriously nowadays. The state's prosecutor will probably offer him a year or so of jail time to plead guilty to it or else they will kick it up to the Fed level. The Feds have special prosecutors assigned to this specific task (child pornography) that are quick to take such referrals, and they play hardball. VOORHEES probably does not have the juice to hire a good lawyer on state charges, let alone a Federal case. Federal time means no parole and a very slim chance of probation. I personally know of cases where a dipshit turned down 2 years in state prison and got 8 years in federal prison. It does matter if he ever forwarded any of the no-no photos as they will really whack him for that.

He's got priors so I read this as a case of his lawyer just negotiating how much prison time he gets. His lawyer will try to negotiate that by how sick he is, that he's a Veteran (?), he didn't physically hurt anybody, etc.

I predict 18 months of actual lock up time. Followed by SOR (10 years) and a couple years of supervised probation. Not allowed on any computers too.

Scum bag, do away with him and save the money..there is one thing for certain, sex offenders aren’t taken lightly in the slammer- he may get an extended sentence, but one thing for 100% certain is, he will get 15 for sure- but in units of measurement....

I don't understand the middle man scam. I know it's very common, over seas scammers getting people like him to be middle men. But I don't understand why? (from the middle man's perspective) Why be the middle man, why not just keep all the money? Is it because they think they'll be okay since they're "just the middle made"? Didn't make the fake sale, didn't keep the money, was just paid for something else. (though MENSA members they usually ain't)

The kidde porn will go Federal if anyone one of the victims lives out of the State of Iowa. My guess is a Federal investigator (FBI or Postal) will get this information soon and they will request he be held until trial. Even with the Covid-19 issues I doubt they will let him go far and if they do he will have a monitor on his ankle. If this prosecution goes like all the other ones I have seen he will get a minimum of 3 years inside especially if he has done time before. There is some hope he will get some meaningful punishment from this.

Thought some might be interested to know that I just got a restitution check from the court of Johnson County Iowa, in regards the State of Iowa v Clyde Nelson Voorhees, in the amount of $0.45. Amazing
