My first deer rifle was a later Savage 340 C, which went down the road when I bought a Sako 270. I bought two for my twins when they started hunting. And just for giggles, I bought myself another. Still take it out once in a while.
They are surprisingly accurate and the magazine allows the use of spitzer bullets. I liked the 150 grain spitzers, but the 130 grain versions work nicely as well and can be sent out at a pretty good clip.
Thanks for the comments. I`ve also loaded the spitzer 130gr and it is accurate and extends the range of the great old 30-30. Agreed on the price. It is priced to Sell.
Very, very few were Walnut and if I recall correctly, walnuts were available pre receiver scope mount d/t. Your pictures appear to show a blondish stock idenical to the one on my 340. Mine is not Walnut but maybe it's just the lighting confusing my accessment.

I thought they were all walnut stocked. I've had four of them and all were walnut. The cheaper stevens version were stained birch.
