I was poking around a few smaller gun shops looking for a decent 20ga SxS to scratch an itch and spied a Benelli Montefeltro 20 in the corner. I asked about it and the old codger said it was “broken” and he was selling it cheap for parts. Turns out he took it in on trade as it wouldn’t eject and he claims to have dumped over $100 into trigger and action parts without success.

Knowing it was recoil operated and likely just needed a new recoil spring I asked the old guy and he got pissed and told me that couldn’t possibly be it. Being the guy is a first rate Azzhole I asked him how much he needed for it and he said $400, told him $300 cash and he bit. The gun has been used a bit and had a few light marks in the epoxy wood finish. The only bad part was it came with only the modified choke tube.

I got it home, pulled the recoil spring, stretched it out and put it back and drove to my buddies farm about 20 minutes down the road. I loaded the magazine and it immediately cycled 12 rds as if it were brand new.

Once that was solved I ordered a Surecycle stainless kit and the extended charging handle as I prefer them and the Carlson waterfowl 3 extended choke set (ic, mod, full) . Stripped the wood stock and sealed with 4 coats of spar varnish allowed to soak in then wiped dry and added about 30 coats of tru oil that was then rubbed back to a satinish state.

For the $500 I have into it I’m very impressed with it but still thinking I want a SxS……

Sorry the only pic i have handy is of the wood refinish progress.

Better looking grain than any I have had
Yeah...well...it's still not a SXS. smirk

OK, so I'm jealous. wink
20 gauge Montefeltro is one of my favorites. The good thing with modified is you always have the correct choke. I’ve thought about lock-tighting mod chokes into all my guns with tubes. There would no longer be a need for tightening tubes then.

Take the tube out and wash it thoroughly with acetone
and the tube recess in the barrel. Put in back in dry
and it soon be in there as permanently as if it was
one piece. Save your loctite for scope bases and
ring screws

Don’t think I haven’t thought of trying to use it for trade bait on a trim 20 SxS…. 🙄🤷🏼‍♂️
Need to get it outside for a better picture but took this one tonight after work.

Tell you what I will do, I will give you your money back on it and let you make a $50 profit....lol
Nice looking shotgun. I am jealous too. I never happen across deals like that! Good luck in the side by side hunt as well.
