$200, synthetic/matte black, 23"
Good buy?
And, yeah, I like the oddball 16 gauge...
Also, the 16 receiver is ONLY compatible with the 16 gauge barrels, right?
I guess that is a good buy. Might want to check with some of the guys on Shotgunworld.com. I am not sure whether Remington made a downsized frame for the 16.
I am with you....I like the 16. I currently have 3 A5's, two sweet, one standard.
They are a dream to shoot.

Unfortunately, no. It is the same frame as the 12 ga. Big error on the part of big green in my opinion, as it limits the handling qualities of that fine gauge. Still, the ammo is lighter and less bulky, the recoil and noise a little less, and for upland game, performance is as good as a 12 ga. There is not quite the selection of slugs, loads for waterfowl and turkeys, etc. as a 12.
I have a Rem. M31-B Special, with very nice wood, hand-checkering, and 26" barrel, that WAS designed on a downsized frame. It is a joy to carry and shoot. Rem. had it right, years ago, then sacrificed it in favor of mass production.

Price is quite reasonable; ammo isn't. I have a couple of 16's and they sit in the safe a lot.. At about $8.00/box (and I'm not a game bird hunter) I spend about $8.00/year shooting them.. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
I reload for 12, 20,28, .410... Not even sure if the local sporting good store has anything FOR the 16....
Since you can now buy 12 ga ammo in 7/8 oz and one oz loads, the only reason to buy a 16 ga is to get one on a 16 frame. Remington no longer makes such a gun.
Just me, but I wouldn't consider a shotgun with a plastic stock. Especially for upland bird hunting. A man needs a LITTLE style in his life.
Forepaw, you have one of the true classic bird guns. The "ball bearing corn sheller" has never been beat.
FWIW, my older Remington Model 11 Sportsman is a class act. The new one, will be a work/abuse horse.
I've been watching Model 31s on the auction sites. You can probably get a pretty nice 16 for under $300 if you have a little patience.

My dad had a model 11 with a USA ordinance barrel and a Cutts compensator.Wonder what the story is behind that combination?

Good buy?
yes. it is a good deal and ammo is available at good prices if you know how to look for it. is this a express or a wingmaster, choke tubes? it would make a great dove quail chukar gun

Last M11 I bought was the 16 ga.. I've only shot about 4 rounds through it. Perfectly good shotgun once the shooter gets used to all the flying hardware..
