Picked at my FFL today. Nice Remington 870 28 gauge Wingmaster, skeet and modified vent rib barrels. Good condition but no safe queen which suits me fine.

Nice! When I was in high school, I got to shoot another guy's 28ga 870 for a round of skeet. I remember thinking it was way cooler than my 12ga 1100. Since then, I always liked the little scatterguns.

Sounds like an older gun. Not set up for choke tubes. The one I had, with extra choke tubes, was a big disappointment. Fixed under warranty for not feeding shells, then for a bent barrel that would allow the removal of the choke tube. After warranty ran out, it literally came apart on the trap range. Too bad. Handled and shot birds like Blue Grouse really well. Best of luck. E

Not an 870, but an 1100 28 that I like a lot. It has the dull finish, not sure the exact designation. I traded for it, don't know a lot about it.

I reload 28 ga with a MEC, not a fancy one.

This one sure not as pretty as a shiny Sporting Clays version. This one must be some version of a field grade. I’ve not seen many with this dull finish.

Anyone know about that?

I’ve had a couple 1100 28 ga. Still have one. It’s a fantastic dove killing machine.

For sure.

Kills way above it's weight class, surprising actually.

I have a nice old 11-48 in 28 that I bought as a grouse gun. I couldn't hit squat with it. I was carrying it last year and walked into a flock of turkeys (we have a fall either sex season). I had never shot a turkey before so I gave it a try. I picked all adult bird at about 40 yards and completed flattened it. On my way back to the house I had to walk by my shooting range so I patterned it at 50 yards. The thing is choked like a rifle so it was no wonder I couldn't hit a flying grouse with it. I took my turkey again this year with it and the turkey was standing just in front of the 50 yard target. Bang! Flop! It likes the high brass 6's and is now my turkey thumper.

Nice one Troutnut……is it the one with the mahogany stock? I have an older one that’s choked modified and I can’t seem to miss with the thing👍😁…….one of my favorite shotguns!!

I have one with chokes. Love it. Killed a bunch of blues for me last season.
