Picked up a real nice 12ga. M870 28" modified plain barrel the barrel code indicates a manufacture date of November 1968. The metal is mint the wood is only about 95% all in all really nice for being 55 years old. The wood has 1 st gen impressed checkering and the older satin finish. When did Remington 1st start finishing the 870 with RKW finish? Mb

The Fluer De Lis checkering started in 1965. I believe the finish was around the same time.

Troutnut the forend and butt match finish and early checkering style which predates the Fluer De Lis style. The action has the silver lifter and trigger is plated the same. All my other silver lifter guns have a blued trigger. The butt also has a black plastic horizontally grooved butt plate..mb

Great gun. The older 870 pumps are fantastic……better than just about any pump being made today IMHO

These are 1963 and 1964 model 870s. The checkering is a little different from 1965 and newer models. Both have the plated shell lifter and silver trigger. The finish isn't quite as thick as the later models either

Troutnut it's exactly like the one on the left. Jesus 60 years old and doesn't look like it has fired 2 boxes of ammo. I pulled the forend off and bolt out still had what looked like factory lube on it no wear at all minimal blue wear on the mag tube none anywhere else. Take a stab value price wise if you would. Thanks.mb

Probably 6-800 range. The nice ones do very well on gunbroker and larger auctions. Here and smaller forums not as well.

You know I can't tell if your gun have the barrels that are like the originals with the barrel ext in the receiver was sweated on or a later 1 piece barrel. The barrel code on my gun indicates a 11 /68 man date but stocks and action 1963. Mb
