Can the H&R standard barrel shotguns be safely drilled and tapped for a scope mount? Im thinking of a winter project and my lovely state in a shotgun/muzzy only proposition. Been doing the muzzleloader thing for quite a while and honestly, sometimes the cleaning just is a drag.

I was thinking of tweaking a H&R 20 gauge with a nice 4x scope for a lightweight hunting rig. I may even play around with handloading sabots for it. The question is whether or not one can safely drill and tap the standard barrels. The bull barrel version come drilled from the factory- but I just see no point in a 10 lb, single shot, bull barreled shotgun. Pump and auto shotguns need not apply.

Im just kind of thinking out loud. Id love to hear your opinions or other options for a svelte slugger.
I see they now make a new light model pre-drilled. I guess drilling and tapping will not be required.
the 20 gauge ones can be. the 12's don't have enough steel
