Some time ago, I picked up an Ithaca 900 recoil operated shotgun but haven't yet gotten around to shooting it. I couldn't pass it up, it was just so pretty. Before I put it through its paces, I'd like to give it a thorough cleaning but can't find takedown instructions or a manual for it online. Any suggestions?

Would the takedown be similar to a Browning A5? It's been awhile, but I have taken one of those apart a long time ago.

Here ya go... But takedown's very similar to a Rem 1100..

Except the XL900 is gas operated. I'd like details for the recoil operated version.

Another tidbit from same shotgun world post...

...To setup for low powered loads, turn the beveled governor ring toward the receiver. Reverse it for high powered loads. Same as the Franchi 48. The recoil operated 900s were imported from 1968-1973 by Ithaca. They run around $250 at local pawn shops in excellent condition...

Thanks, I think that will keep me out of trouble. The takedown does look pretty similar to the Auto 5 if I remember correctly, even to the reversal of the friction ring.
